Eerie, You know I trust your judgement. You have made some excellent decisions in assigning dragons to their preferred tasks to ensure our clan runs as efficiently as it does. I cannot deny that Amethyst is a competent treasurer. If I did not know better, I would think he hatched counting coins, and his first words were spent criticising the diminished value of his egg. I understand that his primary duty is to handle our finances. I understand that his motivation is to ensure we do not experience unnecessary, preventable losses. However, even though I appreciate that he takes his job seriously, I think it is significant enough to point out that we have no need for a vault guard. In fact, if a dragon were able to convince Amethyst, by any means including death, to allow them to withdraw so much as a coin from the vault, I would be suitably impressed. I may even assist them in carrying the bags. Take for example, this morning. Frightening wished to make a withdrawal in order to procure rare herbs for a sleeping draught. Amethyst refused to let him, as expected. Frightening was adamant, and insisted the herbs would sell out if he did not leave quickly. He was in such desperation; he sought my assistance. As you know, I am an imperial. Amethyst is a pearlcatcher. He just about comes up to my shoulder’s height – sitting on his hind legs. I do not mean to boast, but I have been in more battles than most can ever dream of. Amethyst has never fought a single round of battle in his life. I am feared in the Mire for conquering wartoads the size of guardians (another breed, by the way, which dwarfs that of a mere pearlcatcher), by myself. Do you remember the Shade-touched ridgeback? My point is this; you know of my strength. My battle-hardened endurance. I am ashamed to say I was unable to move him. I… I am still uncertain how this could be so. He refused to budge from the vault door and stubbornly sat. I attempted to set him aside by force. His physical form was… anchored, somehow. Like a haughty tree. Like he was supported by great unshakeable roots, deep under the earth. Yes. I believe he may have been using Nature magic to make himself immovable. Frightening did not reach the Auction House in time. This cannot go on. When Whisper returns, I beg of you to have a word with Amethyst. He only seems to listen to you. Instruct him in the ways of leniency. Allow us to make a withdrawal more than once a moon cycle, in amounts greater than ten pieces of treasure per dragon. We are not destitute. Humbly yours, Iblis. P.S: Barring that, I would appreciate it if you would consider asking Amethyst to deposit Crookshanks into the vault. There are plenty of shiny objects. She will not mind. Windsinger forbid, it may even keep her out of trouble. | ______________ |
