Teamaker
Hyolin swept through the small kitchen, grabbing a tray of scones out of the oven and replacing it with another tray in a single motion. They quickly moved the pastries to a rack to cool, before turning and noticing Voiken in the doorway on their way to clean the now-empty tray. Voiken stepped forward to meet them, pressing her face along the other dragon's feathers to sweep up their familiar scent and hearing their murmured "good morning" before they were past each other. Preparing the many teas she would sell to her clanmates required just as much attention as Hyolin devoted to their pastries, and would be consumed with equal passion by the dragons who stopped here to begin their day. Her claws moved with certainty, eyes half-closed, working as much by the smell of the leaves as the labels on their jars. She knew just how her regulars took their tea, after all. Many of them wanted strong and caffeinated teas to begin a long day of physical or intellectual work, while others, such as the astronomers originating from the Starfall Isles, would be having softer blends to enjoy a relaxing sunrise before resting from a night spent studying the stars. A tendril of cinnamon scented the air as Hyolin put the finishing touches on something behind her, and then the first dragons were arriving. Hyolin trailed their tail down her side as they moved past, plates in hand, and Voiken fell into easy step beside her, heating runes fading as she grabbed both Sangre's black tea (strong enough to make an unsuspecting dragon choke) and Astriel's slightly weaker but still highly caffeinated tea. The cups stacked easily, and Sangre swiftly thanked them both before pushing a scroll Hyolin had asked Astriel for a few days prior across the counter and moving aside for the next dragon behind him. |
Later, after the rush had faded and the payments had been placed under the counter, Voiken picked up the last two cups of tea and turned, seeing Hyolin holding a plate of various scones. They walked outside and hopped up onto the roof of their cafe, before curling around each other and enjoying the warmth of each other as they looked out over the bustle of the clan they had helped feed. Voiken took a bite of a scone and leaned into Hyolin. This was a good life, doing what she loved with the one she loved. She focused on her warm feelings, and knew her mate had felt them when she turned her head to sleepily preen at her mane before pillowing it on her shoulders and slipping into a late morning nap. Voiken finished her scone, took another sip of tea, touched one paw to the alarm rune that would wake them in plenty of time, and drifted off to join her mate in a well-earned rest in the sun. |
