Biography

Born into a Skydancer-Exclusive clan with a physical disability of the wings.

The tendons that anchor the muscles of Rayne's wing-bases to her shoulders and back were underdeveloped in the egg, and only continued to deteriorate with age. She tried very hard as a youngling to learn flight, but her small, nomadic clan had little medical knowledge, and little desire to commune with outsiders, and they decided she was simply stupid for not being able to learn something that comes to her kind instinctively. There was nothing visibly wrong, after all, so that had to be it. She found herself being neglected by her caretakers and peers as a lost cause that would eventually be taken care of by the way of nature.

Needing flight to be perceived as a true member of her clan and not a burden, Rayne only wound up tearing the musculature away from the bone as she pushed herself harder and harder to succeed in flight. This prevented later attempts at physical therapy, as her injuries were too extensive and old by the time she had access to it. Unfortunately, magical avenues were also cut off; attempting to use healing magic on long-scarred tissue oftentimes leads to the development of aggressive cancers, a risk few dragons are willing to take.

In her younger years with the clan, Rayne would cling to her caretakers as her siblings darted through the air around them. Rayne found that, while she had too hard a time lifting herself on her wings, she could still hold them out well enough to glide. often found herself clmbing trees and cliffs to catcch up to her clan, and became a natural at ti over time.

Rayne was left behind by her clan as a young adult, overnight as she slept. This was the 'kind' way of abandoning herr; Rayne knew if she tried to catch up with her former clan, they'd make the message stick by attacking her as an outsider.

> She cannot gain altitude under her own power, because she is incapable of producing enough downforce when she flaps her wings due to the above mentioned disability. She is capable of holding her wings in position to glide for extended periods of time.
