Biography
» GET TO KNOW ME
Socrates was born into a family of scholars. His natural intellect and ability to retain lots of information meant he had to put in very little effort to look smart, resulting in a young Socrates becoming arrogant and misusing his smarts. Although favored as a child, he soon became intolerable. His witty and sarcastic remarks, as well as an inherent need to correct anyone who got even the slightest bit of information wrong, drove his entire clan (including his family) to madness. His insufferable personality made him an outcast and almost got him removed from the clan of scholars. Seeking to avoid exile, he fled to the harsh environment of the mountains, where soldiers trained day and night to become powerful. On one especially bad evening, where the weather was more intense than it usually was, a rendezvous with the soldiers made Socrates rethink his life and seek to become a warrior instead. The soldiers put Socrates through brutal training regimens, getting him used to the harsh environments he had not known when he was coddled as a hatchling. He even found new ways to challenge his intellect, thinking of smart solutions to win fights and help the rest of the soldiers survive in the mountains. Although he struggled for the first year or so, an older Socrates became respected by the soldiers. Eventually, they left the mountains and returned to a calm pocket in the Wind territory, where Socrates eventually said goodbye to many of those soldiers – save for a Pearlcatcher named Perdix who he had trained with and later developed a crush on. The two have been mates for a long time, but with the way they train, no one would ever guess unless he introduced her as his mate. Socrates is calm these days, often preferring to not speak unless his voice is asked for. He is still arrogant and naïve, but those he trains with (and his mate) often give him a good mental wake-up slap if he ever gets too big for his britches. He’s a master of thinking on the fly, but his vast knowledge also helps him navigate quite well. Of the nine intelligences, he is especially proficient in spatial and natural knowledge.
