"Everything is going to be ok, as long as we are together."

With the smoke covering up the sky, it’s inevitable that some of it would get onto your scales, and you know this is something a good washing can’t fix. Not that there’s enough water...but this is something that you have to hide, and you’ve found just the thing for the job.
A cloak, doubtless belonging to some bygone wizard, for the cloth still flashes and shines! Better yet, it matches hers, and how wonderful you both look now. Two magnificent dragonesses, standing out against the dark smoke, your very brilliance chasing the shadows away.
Sometimes the silence gets a bit too stuffy, so when you hear those familiar jaunty words, you immediately veer in that direction. A singalong is just what you need! You sit down and bellow the lyrics with everybody else, and who cares about how off-key you are? There’s no one here to tease you, no one to tell you tone it down. You know exactly why that is...but you don’t hear the used to be over the joy of now.
You watch her as she sets up chess pieces. She dips a talon into ink, deftly sketching out a map. You see a gully, a fortress...a game waiting to be played!
She talks of tactics and strategies, asking you questions, listening to what you have to say. You enjoy the talk as much as you do the game. You learn much, you get to share what you know, and best of all, it’s fun.
Even soldiers can look fantastic, and you’re certainly going to do that now, with brilliant golden chains draped over your wings and finely wrought pendants gleaming. They call to mind halls of polished granite and marble, velvet finery, good food, and song. If you close your eyes, you can almost be there, where grandeur and beauty once dwelled. But you are largely content with the chime of your new ornaments, your own little minstrels whispering into your ears.
The buddy system—what a fun term it is, and it certainly fits! Going on patrol can be difficult, but with a buddy at your side—or rather, a very special someone—the hours simply fly past. And talk isn’t always necessary; the silence between you is comfortable, like burrowing into a well-worn quilt at the end of a rainy day. It’s good to have someone to look out for you. Good to have someone who can listen. Good to have someone to stand by you.
Good to not be alone.
