bio The Effluvial let out a little frustrated growl as she hopped another of the lava flows that crept through the Volcanic Vents, thankful once more for the magics that Bayle had lain across her hide to protect her from the worst of the oppressive heat. She was far from home, to say the least. Then again, Vierxae had always found herself far from home, since before she could remember. Her large talons tap-tapped at the stone for several brief moments as she scanned the rocks around her. It would have been much easier to fly, but the heat of the area made the thermal currents above the vents capricious at best. Only those born here in the Ashfall Wastes, or those hailing from the Windswept Plateau would likely be able to navigate the winds easily. Dodging trees she could do, but the winds would threaten to drop her right into one of the pools of standing, molten rock. She wasn't sure Bayle's enchantments would survive a dip like that. And she certainly didn't want to test it. She turned her attention back to the task at hand, following the faint trail of blood that she'd been following for the better part of an hour. The fluid evaporated and burned to nothingness almost immediately, so she was surprised when she found a larger pool with the middle still a little bit viscous. She was close... She crept forward, steps far more wary than they had been just moments before and peeked around a tumble of rocks. There it was. A tunnel hydra's den. Vier took a slow, deep breath (or as deep as she could in the searing heat) and slunk further forward and vanished into the dark tunnel, grateful that her eyes were so well adapted to the darkness from her time in the Shrieking Wilds. Deep inside the twisting caverns (they looked as though they were old lava flows, if she were honest...), Vierxae finally found what she sought. A huge mound of flesh and scales, slash and teeth marks all across it's hide and blood still weeping from the wounds. She waited several long moments, waiting to see if the beast's body moved at all. It didn't look like it was breathing... the pool of blood under its body suggested it had bled out. Finally... Still, the wary Crow scooped up a rock from nearby and threw it, preparing to turn tail. The rock bounced against the monster's hide... and that was it. She crept forward just a touch further. Then further still, and warily kicked the mound of scales before her. She nearly jumped out of her skin at the little crooning noise that broke the near-silence of the den. Certainly not the noise she would have expected out of this beast! She moved slowly around the beast to find it's serpentine form curled around what appeared to be... a nest? And sitting among the many crushed egg shells was a singular sandy-toned creature... It swiveled and watched Vierxae... and a moment later, a second set of eyes joined the first as another head raised from the floor and it let out a pathetic sounding whining noise. A tunnel hydra. A baby tunnel hydra... A smile crept across Vierxae's features, and she moved forward slowly. She slowly reached out with one clawed hand, presenting it to the hydra for it's inspection while the other searched a pouch hanging from her kilt. A couple strips of meat were withdrawn and after she had passed the hydra's immediate interest check, she tossed the dried meat to the twin heads. Each snagged a piece and ripped into them as Vierxae watched. "...I think we will be very, very good friends..." the crow whispered quietly to herself, and moved forward to bundle the hydra up.
