A quick-thinking, fast-on-his-feet former professional thief turned professor, Jude is an expert in history and archaeology. Growing up in the Boneyard left him experienced in survival skills and basic defence. Now one of Home's most versatile professors, he's known for his practical and applicable courses and his laid-back but knowledgeable personality.
- Biography
Jude didn't see the sun until the day he left the Boneyard. Born deep in Plague territory, he grew up an orphan in a region where the infectious clouds were so thick you could never even see the sky. For most of his life, his only concern was taking care of his little sister, Chana. An ancient historian by trade, he became a sort of vigilante archaeologist Robin Hood - stealing artifacts from museums and from rich collectors and returning them to sacred grounds and their rightful owners. Jude isn't proud of stealing, but he knows that he's good - he says he can steal anything. This would have been all fine and dandy, were it not for Jude's boyfriend at the time - who, in an attempt to earn enough money for the two of them to move out of Plague and fulfill their dream of living in a place where they can see the sea, joined the Boneguard. The first time Jude got caught was the first time his boyfriend learned of what he had been doing. Jude narrowly managed to escape the Boneguard, and he and his sister decided to leave Plague lands for good. He only stayed at Home after much prompting on the part of Cielo and Chana, but everyone is glad he did. Jude left his past as a thief behind, and although he'll still defend what he did, he makes himself scarce whenever officials come poking around. He quickly established himself as a member of Light's archaeological guild, and has cemented his place as one of Home's best historians.
- Life at Home
Jude currently serves as chief historian on Home's main faculty board and is responsible for designing and delegating the history curriculum for Home's residents. He serves himself as an ancient history and archaeology professor, though he can be tempted to lecture on modern history topics if he fancy strikes him. His expertise surviving as an orphan in the Boneyard makes him an ideal teacher of survival and self-defence classes, and thanks to him most of Home's residents can reliably start fires and have a pretty solid left hook. Archaeology, though, is his primary focus, and he loves taking his archaeology students on digs and trips to sites. He's felt more at home since his boyfriend Levi managed to track him down and moved in, and a favourite pastime is taking trips with Levi to local used-bookstores.
- Relationships
Jude is a valued member of the faculty board and is admired by his students. He's excellent at explaining things, especially to hatchlings - though he can be impatient with dragons who should know better, he's usually willing to extend his patience as much as he can. This quality makes him one of Home's best teachers, which is why Cielo was so adamant that he stay. His students love him for his no-nonsense attitude, the jokes they would never expect to hear from an adult, the way he seems to know how to do almost everything (necessary for orphans in Plague, but he won't tell them that), and the way he always seems to have some cool ancient artifact in his pockets (was it stolen? who's to say). Jude is generally respected by his students for his tendency to encourage them to self-regulate and create an environment of mutual learning; he rarely has the need to discipline students or do anything more than issue warnings for misbehaviour. Jude tends to be a bit of an irritable fellow, but his knowledge and expertise quickly endeared him to the faculty board and he has no qualms about calling them his family. He is very close with his boyfriend Levi; although often private about his personal life, he and Levi often finish each other's sentences and seem like they always know exactly what the other is thinking, and many of Jude's friends find them downright adorable.
- Personality
Scrawny but tall, Jude is a quick dragon. He's one of the fastest fliers around, and he's also one of the quickest thinkers. His past excellence as a thief makes him highly adept at thinking on his feet and problem-solving under pressure. Jude tends to be a bit terse, and doesn't open up much to others until he fully trusts them. Despite this, he's well-known for always saying exactly how he feels or what he thinks, rarely one to keep his opinion to himself. Far from the friendliest dragon around, he's nevertheless remarkably loyal and devoted to his family, willing to do anything to keep home safe and running smoothly. Jude has a tendency to give up a bit easily on projects (sometimes giving up on archaeological digs after only a few days of work), but can often be convinced to keep at it with only a little encouragement. He just gets inside his own head is all - his friends have told him that, for the most tenacious dragon around, he gives up awfully easily. Having grown used to the sights of deep Plague as a hatchling, he harbours a deep love for natural beauty. When he's not teaching or working on his archaeological work, Jude can usually be found on the cliff next to Home looking out over the sea. He has a phobia of the ocean but loves watching the day span around the waves, and he loves sunrises and sunsets in particular. He's never been known to miss watching the sun rise over the sea.
