Ryoshi stems from a simple family whose members live simple lifes as fishermen, and a fisherman was all he ever aspired to be. Unfortunately, fate had different plans for him.
One day while out at sea, a heavy storm hit Ryoshi's boat. Unprepared to fight the raging winds and powerful waves, his boat capsized and he fell into the sea. He managed to hold on to a piece of driftwood which saved his life, but another fragment of the destroyed boat hit his face full-force, damaging his eyes and permanently blinding him. He would have sunken into the depths and drowned, unable to hold on any longer, but it seemed that the Tidelord Himself showed mercy. He bestowed a blessing upon Ryoshi that restored his strength and showed him a glimpse of a future in which he survived.

Ryoshi drifted on the sea for days, plagued by visions but determined to survive. He was eventually stranded and saved, but his future-sight remained. Blinded and without a boat, he had to give up his simple life as a fisherman and now lives from the prophecies he makes. He has a reputation for being trustworthy, but his life is marked by a great bitterness at his fate. Still, he's resilient and determined not to let his 'blessing' drive him into despair.

He can sometimes be seen standing at the beach of the atoll's largest island, staring out at the ocean as if he could still see it. It is ill-advised to disturb him while he is doing so.
