Shadows hide Nilena when she wants, and tell her their secrets. Or so she claims.Nilena loves to be mysterious, and plays word games with others whenever possible. Her friendships in the clan are mostly shallow, and she is often gone from the lair.

Not much is known from Nilena’s early life before the clan. However, she is fond of telling the story of just how she ended up joining. According to her, Nilena was minding her own business, wandering around the Starwood Strand and admiring the beautiful sights when she nearly ended up as a victim of a random portal: apparently she had walked in the middle of unmarked testing area, a fact that she still claims is Sharain’s fault. Sharain did save her but immediately started to (unfairly, she adds) berate Nilena for contaminating the test. Of course, she argued back about the safety issues. They both claim to have won the argument and the story usually evolves every time it is told. However, fact is that the two are now a pair and Sharain is one of the very few dragons Nilena doesn’t play games with.

Nilena is often gone from the lair, building and maintaining her web of informants and spies. Sometimes she goes to be a spy herself, delighting in the adventure, conning and excitement of it, and time to time she disappears for weeks to stalk possible foes and aggressors. Occasionally she also tags along with the Ambassadors instead of relying just to their reports about other clans, dragon and beastclan both.

The whole clan is not completely aware of Nilena’s position: the Council of course knows, but she keeps the extent of her web secret from the rest. For the rest, she claims to be just a poet enraptured by the beauty of all that lives. To be honest, she does write poems, some of them even good ones. Most of the Clan is still trying to figure out just how she knows what is going on in other clans: she is fond of dropping mentions of happenings in their original clans, partly to give them news and partly to keep them out of balance.

In addition to her position as a spymaster, Nilena is a master-level shadow mage. Her style of magic is mostly suited for her profession: cloaking spells, listening and various ways to distract and avoid being seen. She abhors direct confrontation and prefers to deal with things from the distance, and most preferably via someone else.
