A dragon once trapped in the Forbidden Portal for eons, Obscurious was freed when the venue reopened before a band of coliseum fighters who had come to investigate the strange lights in the sky. Befriended by the group and taken back to their lair, the fae - who in the untold time spent in another dimension had become mutated - found it difficult to adjust to his new life. He would not give up his garments of an unknown insectoid material, or the purple crystal knife which he kept with him at all times, the likes of which the clan’s smithy had never seen before.

At first Obscurious refused to speak about his experiences in the portal, unable to master his thoughts, but as he grew accustomed to being back in Sornieth and in the company of other dragons the fae gradually became more effusive. He spoke of living in constant fear of the terrible and bizarre creatures that dwelt in the world on the other side of the portal, which he called the Deadlights. The laws of nature and physics were not the same in the Deadlights, and the things he tried to describe were hard for others to comprehend, though some of the clan’s scientists had theories. They became excited with speculation, suggesting that a probe or even a team of explorers might be sent through the portal, but Obscurious’ violent reaction to this led to the banning of such proposals. Not only did the clan leader and her council fear what might lurk in the Deadlights, but there would be few who would volunteer for an expedition, not after seeing how Obscurious had been changed there..

The alien magic in the Deadlights had warped the fae’s body, resulting in a bulbous, giant eyeball for a head, and he had abnormally thick and scaly skin with strange markings and patterns. Obscurious had no mouth to speak or eat with, instead he had developed telepathy to project his thoughts, and his nourishment came from the absorption of magic. The fae could float without flapping his wings, and at times it seemed as though smoke followed him, twisting and turning with a force of its own. His presence made others feel uncomfortable at best, and horrified at worst, though most of the politer residents made an effort to hide their awkwardness.

Obscurious carries with him a sense of dread at all times, though he has found some respite with the clan’s coven, who concoct calming draughts and elixirs of clarity to help him sleep without dreams. He has decided to stay with The Lastsparks and work with their warriors and mages, utilizing his knowledge of defensive magic in the study of combative spells, as the fae is keen to protect his new home, and is always on the lookout for danger.

Fun fact: 'The Deadlights' as a place was inspired by the works of Stephen King.

Obscurious' name is a portmanteau of 'Obscure' and 'Curious'.
