Biography
SHALASH They/them Deity Name: Tombholder God of memories, ghosts, and forgotten treasure |
How strange that even the most fleeting things leave impressions upon the air. Through the hollow eyes in your cracked and sun-bleached face, you see them, dimples and patterns upon ever-flowing time. Once, these hallowed halls rang heavy with voices, all of them chanting in adoration, praising your divine name. You whisper back to those bygone times, and it’s like a spark igniting a roaring wildfire. Suddenly the halls are once again ringing with paeans and music. Nothing but echoes, but as real as the songs that birthed them, real enough to drown out the emptiness of forgetting.
|
Is it the sound that draws them here, or the emptiness yearning to be filled? They come singly or in small groups, stumbling through the muck. Mud drips off their apparel, begriming the temple floors, and their pleas or demands are clumsy imitations of the invocations once made to your glory. But the zeal in their eyes would put any of your long-gone worshipers to shame. Old magic shifts restlessly within you, about to strike with a serpent’s sting...or a kiss.
|
You reach out with gilt-tipped claws—and touch a vault of memory, tucked away deep in the mind. Each one smothered beneath layers of time and forgetting...You bare your teeth, a mixture of contempt and hate. Will these supplicants soar on the wings of memory, or will it crush them beneath its weight? Neither matters to you. Forgetting is the enemy. Now let it be stripped away. |
When your work is complete, when the supplicants have stumbled back into the jungle, the silence descends again, enshrouding you not in forgetting, but in peace. Your domain is yours once more, pristine and unsullied, faint echoes like fluttering feathers on the very edge of consciousness. A lone light gleams upon the floor: an offering, left in a patch of sunlight. It flies to your shining claws, and there it glows with the promises of memory and respect. Somewhere beneath the stone mask, another emotion stirs within you. A surge of satisfaction. A smile. |
"
Being the god of memory means that when someone loses something, they always come to her. This happens so often, that even though she was originally mildly insulted, she is now considering charging people in an attempt to try to discourage them from relying on her. She’s worried Antigone will find a way to exploit that too, though.
