Biography
Nihilim
Goddess of the Stars and the Night
The constellation Draco shined brightly in the night sky. Brighter than all the other stars scattered around it. The dragons serving the Arcanist, their deity, stared at the constellation with wonder. It had been a normal night for all of them, until suddenly, one of the constellations had started glowing, brighter than all the other ones.
“This is the brightest it’s ever shone before.” A dragon murmured, staring at the constellation in wonder as they shook their head in confusion. “It must be a sign. But what could it mean?” They wondered out loud. Murmurs of agreement followed as more dragons gathered around, staring at the glowing constellation.
The constellation continued to shine. It glowed brighter and brighter, making dragons look away as the light filled the dark sky, lighting up everything as if it were the sun, perhaps even brighter. It shined so brightly that no dragon dared to look at it. "Cover your eyes!" A dragon cried in warning.
Suddenly, there was a blinding flash of light that filled Sornieth. Even with their eyes shut tight, the dragons could feel it, could sense it.
And then the light died down, fading away, and everything seemed to go back to normal.
Except, maybe one thing. The dragons of the Arcane Clan opened their eyes hesitantly, unsure of what they had seen, and gasped at the sight before them.
A dark purple spiral stood before them, her entire body glowing with a faint, but warm golden light, with rings glowing with the power and symbols of the Arcanist pulsing through her scales, giving off a powerful, yet peaceful and calm aura. She blinked open her eyes slowly and unsurely. She stared at the dragons before her, taking in her surroundings, then looked at her own body, her talons. She gasped in shock, surprise and wonder filling her eyes.
“Where am I?” The Spiral asked, her voice soft, gentle and melodic, ringing out in the silent clearing.
The Spiral stared into the constellation she was born from with despair in her eyes. At first, when she had joined this world, she had been curious. Happy. But now, that was all replaced by feelings of emptiness.
Every time she looked at the stars in the sky, especially her constellation, Draco, she felt like something was missing. Like she didn’t belong here. Like a piece of her soul was still lost within the stars. She wasn’t supposed to be here. She was out of place here. And being here? It just felt wrong.
She remembered what her old Clan used to say. “The stars in the sky look on forever… But they can never interfere.” But she was made of stars in the sky… or was she a dragon? She shook her head in frustration. She didn’t even know who, or what she was now.
All she knew was that she had a life far away from Sornieth, with the stars, the other constellations. Yet no matter how hard she tried to reach for it, she just couldn’t find it. Who she was. What she was. Why she was here.
She sighed, staring at the night sky longingly. Will I ever feel like I belong?
