Notes:
  • Halstein was adopted from Clan Du'Ulnis after their Matriarch, Lucent, approached the Outpost on behalf of the many Nocturne hatchlings that had ended up stranded with the Du'Ulnis after a Nocturne migration - more than the Du'Ulnis could care for themselves.
  • Halstein got his name from Torvindr (who probably thought he was being funny, since the name means stony rock or cliff rock) after he was mistaken for a rock and Bjartur tried to pick him up to determine what kind of rock it was, since he couldn't quite put his claw on it.
  • Bjartur would like to take this moment to point out that yes, he knows how Nocturne hatchlings look, thank you very much.
  • The reason for the case of mistaken identity was that Halstein has an inborn talent for earth magic strong enough that it could manifest despite him not being a trained mage. That, coupled with a Nocturne's habit of imitation and the fact that he had been left unsupervised in close proximity to rocks meant that he really did look like an actual rock.
  • This cleared up, let us return to the issue at hand: Bjartur was quite surprised when the strange rock wasn't a rock at all, but rather a hatchling, staring up at him with wide brown eyes and chirping endearingly at the older Nocturne.
  • Understandably, Bjartur was quite taken with the little one and promptly decided to adopt him, much to Torvindr's chargin, especially since Halstein never lost the habit of staying very still and very silent, petrifying his skin so that he could look like an actual rock. Not even after he requested a breed change from Loke ...though that did at least stop him from doing it accidentally the moment he had stared at a rock for one second too long.
  • (Torvindr very swiftly put tracking runes on Halstein so that they wouldn't lose him, don't worry.)
  • (He has also been taught how to de-petrify himself now, instead of having to wait for someone to come along, realise that he is the weird rock that wasn't there yesterday and remind him that no, he is not actually a rock and does thus need to eat and drink to survive.)
  • Familiar may or may not have been tampered with by Torvindr. The important thing is that it has all kinds of handy magics for helping Halstein out in his daily life.
