Ranov'la guards the Restricted Section of the archives of the Mages' College. His job is to protect and sequester hidden knowledge, and he does so with fierce dedication. His is a dangerous job, but Ranov'la is up to the task; he is thoroughly capable of defending his library, martially and magically, from threats both without and within. The objects Ranov'la keeps are primarily, though not exclusively, books deemed dangerous in some manner, and thus in need of sequestration. His collection includes heretical texts, seditious literature, and tomes so saturated with magic they've become alive (such tomes are kept in the deepest portions of the Restricted Section, behind additional security barriers. They have been known to bite) Other rare and dangerous artefacts are sometimes brought to Ranov'la to keep, such as the haunted plush referred to as Tolase, but such exceptions are rare. Though the work Ranov'la has devoted his life to is largely solitary, the Archons of the Mages' College do occasionally deem it neccessary for him to take on an assistant or an apprentice. These intrusions into the dark and quiet of the Restricted Section rarely last long, for the work is demanding and mishaps are not uncommon. His latest apprentice, a young scholar by the name of Solus, has lasted longer than most, and Ranov'la has begrudgingly started to get used to her presence around the stacks.
