Peril's story: a WIP
She is reclusive and fierce, and although she was raised by Plague dragons and supposedly born in the Scarred Wasteland, Peril has Fire eyes. The mirror pack that raised her always told her that she had a personality similar to that of the hotheaded dragons of the Ashfall Waste. She never knew her real parents, but was adopted by a rowdy mob of Plague dragons that she bonded with over time. Peril has a deep interest in voodoo, although she wouldn't tell anyone why. She eventually grew tired of the same events over and over, so she decided to set off on her way for Fire territory, to find out who her biological parents were and why they had abandoned her at birth. Her journey took her first to the Tangled Wood, where she met a Coatl mystic all the way from the Shifting Expanse. they befriended over drinks and gambling games, and eventually bonded. when it was time for Peril to move on to Water territory, the Coatl, whose name was Estelle, came with her. When the pair got to the Sea Of A Thousand Currents, they immediately decided they hated it. As Peril was a Fire elemental dragon, and Estelle was a Lightning elemental as well as a Coatl, they were sopping wet and miserable the entire trip from island to island. close to the end of the Water flight's territory, Estelle asked Peril if she would be willing to take a detour to the Shifting Expanse before the Ashfall Waste. Peril agreed, and the two moved on, shaking the water out of their wings and feathers. When they got to Lightning territory, Estelle led Peril to a small lair in the Carrion Canyon. Estelle brushed away a shimmering cloth over the door of the lair and stepped in. " Mom? Dad? Its me, Estelle. Your daughter." she said as she ran her claws over a small circuit board on a rock table. Just then, a purple, blue, and green Coatl stepped out from behind a corner. she was covered in black and purple thorns and holding a tiny Coatl in her talons. "Estelle? You... " Her expression quickly changed from shock to fury. "Estelle! " She turned to the young Coatl. "Go get your father! Quickly now, go go!" Estelle stepped back. "Mom, I just wanted to get my...……." she trailed off. "I don't mean any trouble. I just wanted to get my stuff and go."
A large Wildclaw stepped into the room at that moment. He had the same colors as the Coatl and dark watery blue eyes. "Catherine, honey, what is going on? Alexander here was talking about a red and gold Skydancer and... Estelle? I thought...." Estelle averted her gaze. "I just want to get my stuff and go."
Ancilla's eyes hardened. "Get out. You are no daughter of mine, running away and dressing like.." he made a motion with his talon, indicating Estelle's clothing. She growled defiantly."I'll leave after I get my things, and not before." Catherine stepped forward. "We don't have them. we got rid of every last bit of that junk, and turned that room into a nursery."
Estelle looked taken aback. "All of it? even... " she trailed off. "Fine. May the night take you. Peril, let's go." She brushed past Peril and out of the cave. Peril shot a look back at Catherine, half horrified, half apologetic, and turned to follow Estelle.
"Wait." Catherine's voice stopped Peril.
She glanced back. "What is it?"
"That dragoness is no worshipper of the Tidelord, nor the Shadowbinder. She is not who she claims to be! Not to be trusted! Beware, outsider, and do not let her Corrupt you too!"
Peril's spine tingled. Not to be trusted? She stepped cautiously through the iridescent cyan starsilk that was draped over the entryway and shivered when it sent a small electric charge down her neck.
Estelle was waiting for her, and they traveled all the way to the border between the Shifting Expanse and the Ashfall Waste in complete, consuming silence.
When the grayish dirt began to change into coarse black sand, Peril spoke.
"What happened? between you and your family, i mean. Catherine warned me. about you. She said you don't really worship the Tidelord or the Shadowbinder."
Estelle glanced up from the Snapper-shaped rock she had found about a half sun-circle ago.
