Vanessa is a young guardian whose charge was poison making. Ever since her parents died, she and her brother have since taken over flying over the Seas, using their skills to fight. Vanessa has strong wings and is capable of flying even in the hardest storms, which is how she gained the alias Stormsbane. She keeps the underside of her claws with poison so she's known to never be let within range in battle. Somewhere along the road she stablished a small crew of flyers whose expertise is attacking non-water clans who might be flying above the Sea of a Thousand Currents. She is the reliable and trustworthy of the Stormsbane Captains.

Vanessa is boisterous, loud, fierce and commanding. Everything about her makes you think she'd be reckless and impulsive but knowing quite well the high price dragons pay for their foolishness and being raised in the harshest lands of Sornieth made Vanessa extremely cautious, borderline paranoid. She hardly ever takes action without carefully considering the possible outcomes. She's distrusting and collected, trying always her best to make sensible solutions and taking into account all members of her crew's skills and strong points. She knows how much she can ask of them and what to expect, and hates being caught off guard.

Her true intentions are never clear because of that, as Vanessa keeps her natural observant skills to herself only. Most dragons don't like dealing with her because it never seems like she's showing her true colours. She's very defensive about her true nature.

Despite all that, her allies love her for being fun, knowing there's a time for work and a time for leisure and mostly for being absolutely uncontrollable when she's on her free time. She answers to no one but herself ~~and Flavia~~ and loves driving people to their extremes.

When Vanessa is entirely alone, she sings some sea shanties and adds poison to her blades. She looks the pirate part and acts the pirate part.

Love at first sight with Thawedtorn Fleet Crewmaster Flavia

In a harbour around the Behemoth, Vanessa was robbed. Not that it never happened, as there is no such things as honour among thieves in her world, but this one robbery felt different for in place of her embezzled cutlass was a simple note with coordinates. At the end of those, a small island of vibrant foliage off the coast of the xxx.

That's where she met Flavia and usually, Vanessa would be ready to pick up a fight but something just... Clicked about this flamboyant and dramatic skydancer who may or not have stolen her gear just to set up a meeting with Vanessa. After a long negotiation and a few sarcastic jabs at the other, the two hit off right away and formed an alliance that quickly became a partnership and eventually courtship. As they became mates, Flavia was going to abandon her former crew of Thawedtorn pirates, but her captain instead offered to join Vanessa's bigger and stronger fleet.

As they joined forces under the Stormsbane Banner, Flavia was named captain and Vanessa's right hand dragonet, and they have been loyal and devoted to the other since.

NAVIGATING THE NEWSEA

From the 2019 Wavecrest In-Flight Event run by me, of which Vanessa was a main character

It was not her intention to steal maps from the Navigator Sisters and turn the whole ordeal into a race of whoever got first to the claimed 'treasure island' that reappears often on the waters of Sornieth. BUT – It's not like Vanessa ever learned to tell Flavia 'no'. She quickly found herself in a mad race flying over the uncharted waters that surround all lands as her crew of sell-swords and mercenaries tried hard to steal secrets from the Navigator Guild in order to find as many safe spots to rest as they could as they ventured towards the Island.

Alas, the journey proved much harder than she anticipated. As her crew – and the guild members – found themselves in a Pirate's Tale, the group finally arrived at a cursed Island, quickly dubbed Un-Island by Maria Kingsmith. At the centre of the island was a cursed temple, which Vanessa wanted nothing to deal with. Before they could reason to a sensible departure from the Island, they were attacked by a Water Sprite of monstrous dimensions. As Vanessa tried fighting off the creature to give time for her crew to escape, she failed to notice Flavia being drawn to the Cursed temple like a moth to a flame.

As the monster withdrew and her crew took to the skies, the island started sinking. Elena returned from the temple, their allies on toll, but there was no sign of Flavia.

Her mate had been trapped inside the Cursed Temple of Un-Island, and Vanessa swore to bring her back.

"Listen up, you lot. My Flavia is not lost. She is out there, trapped inside that bloody temple. I don't care how long it takes. I have the maps. My crew and your guild have all the artifacts we could ask from that stupid island. I'll study those maps, discover whatever is necessary and find that island again and when I do, I'll slaughter that sprite with my bare claws if needed, and take my Flavia back."

RAIDERS OF UN-ISLAND

From the 2020 Wavecrest In-Flight Event run by me, of which Vanessa was a main character

The temple trembled. The whole island trembled.

A cold wind came running from the endless corridors of the temple and from a dark turn, plants started growing. Vines and thorns started occupying every inch, coming towards them.

“Okay, I’m done with this. Run!” – Elena said and tried to pull Flavia with her, but the skydancer was still as stone. Elena stopped for a second to hold onto Flavia, but the skydancer's green eyes started glowing and glowing. The foliage had taken over the room, and started covering Flavia.

“We can’t... leave her.” – Azela said, taking a step back.

“We have to.” – Elena said, gulping. “Take your left everytime!” – She said, letting both Nelson and Azela go before her. She took one last look over her shoulder to the skydancer, now completely covered in leaves.

Despite her reckless and wild fame, Vanessa is sensible and reliable. She did not save efforts on pinpointing a precise location where the cursed island would next appear and took all needed effort to make it clear to everybody taking part on the mission of the dangers to it. Still, she, Elena and Maria leaded a huge party to raid Un-Island and bring Flavia back, despite having no confirmation she could even be alive still.

As the temple tried its best to trick and trap the raiders in their task, Vanessa became more and more anxious as she could tell both that Flavia was alive and trying her best to turn the tides in their favour. As they exhausted the cursed island magic reserves, the crew found itself once more fighting the dreaded monstrous Un-Sprite, except this time, dragons came prepared. Vanessa called for warriors and they came to their aid! After a gruesome fight during which she broke her right wing and front right paw, the crew managed to break the curse from the Un-Sprite, who turned back to being a regular familiar, and saved Flavia before she was sacrificed and her magic was absorbed by the island.

As the legendary place sunk once more to the waters of Sornieth, it's curse was lifted and it was finally free to be found again, by explorers who no longer had to fear it's dreadful magic.

Flavia was rescued and Vanessa held her once more in her arms.

United at last

Life at Porto
Because of the rescue, Vanessa is far more used to living docked in Porto than her beloved mate. During the whole year at which Flavia was trapped inside Un-Island, Vanessa and their crew stayed in the eastern docks of Porto, their ships firmly still, as Vanessa and Elena worked on ways to locate where Un-Island would appear again.

This partnership means that Vanessa spent a whole year coming and going along town, dealing with the Guild and firmly establishing where her own crew stayed and slept on. Over the months, she simply came to be part of the whole town and as the Guild agreed to fund and support her expedition to find Flavia, she felt greatly indebted to them, even though Elena and Maria assured her that unlike most dragons who owed the Guild money, they were doing it for their own sake. Elena was guilt ridden from being the last dragon to see Flavia and so they helped bring her back. Vanessa feels a great deal of gratitude specially to the imperial and so she kind of has a very friendly relationship with Elena, where they often get together to drink or simply discuss plundering and recent adventures.

Vanessa is a well-known figure in town, as the leader of the ruffians and scallywags of Stormsbane Crew, whom always seems to be at the centre of mischief and mess around town. Wether it's bar brawling, illegal betting, pick pocketing or jaywalking, the Stormsbane Crew is always trying hard to earn money by pillaging unaware clans in the Sea of a Thousand Currents so they always have money to bail out their crew members for the chaos they make in Porto.

Once in a month, Vanessa finds herself in the centre of attentions during what she named 'Purge Day', where she and the other plague dragons in town go around town causing mayhems for no reason other than, as Vanessa claims, celebrating their own chaotic plague energy.

"So immature." – Flavia would say.
"sO ImMaTuRe." – Vanessa would reply.

When she's not stealing from unaware clans at high sea, Vanessa is always at the Gilly n' Gull pub, likely betting on whatever illegal bet is happening at the time, Flavia either at her side or sitting on her lap.
