Biography

Melusine Clearbrook
Also known as Melusine the Dawnlight Queen, inheritor of the Morning Rose Tribe from Estelline Mornrose after she disappeared, leaving Melusine behind to properly build the clan.
Mate to Maelstrom the Vigilante King, mother to Feray the Proud, Raban the Nightwatcher, Sigal the Morning Glory, Iris the Quaint, Hopea the Somber, Audra the Brave, Angela the Dawn's Breath, Viola the Wandering Bard, Vefrett the Eyes of Time, Doleo the Silvertongue, Ceo the Gleaming Fang, and the Hewn Triad (Spectre the Duskwalker, Aube the Dawn's Song, and Ortus the Morning Ghost).

Selected Virtue: Compassion
Hindering Vice: Paranoia
  • Feels the most guilty over nothing.
Birthplace:

As a youth, Melusine lived alone with her parents at the Sundial Terrace, both formerly Water flight Tundras who decided to ally themselves to the Light flight prior to Melusine's hatching, under the banner of no clan and originally not desiring to really be a part of one, as she was significantly more reserved in those days. Upon reaching adulthood, she decided to leave the nest so to speak and start a life for herself. Not long after, she met an older- not quite elderly, but definitely not young- Coatl by the name of Estelline, a lone (well, unless you counted her old, brown cat) philosopher who lived at the edges of the Mirrorlight Promenade. Estelline originally sought solitude in order to more clearly meditate on ethics, as her goal was to make a world of true light, not of sunlight, but of the light that brightens the lives of souls suffering from inner darkness.
Intrigued by this ideal for the world, Melusine became the Coatl's apprentice and student, and the two meditated and calmly debated frequently on the right ways to make a life better, learning and teaching one another in fairly equal amounts.

During this time, a Mirror by the name of Maelstrom ended up in their care after he had been brutally wounded by a particularly potent Serthis sorcerer. As to be expected with Mirrors, he wasn't the most sociable as he had his injuries tended to, and left overnight after he had recovered. However, time and again he would be terribly mangled by powerful monsters, and time and again Estelline and Melusine came to his aid. After the cycle repeated so frequently, the Mirror had warmed up to the two dragons and considered them allies. From henceforth, the three of them moved to the Lanternlea Port to establish a sort of base of operations.
And for years, life went on as the Coatl and her apprentice lived peacefully and grew in wisdom thanks to one another. Then, one morning, with no warning or note or anything of the sort, Estelline had vanished. All that remained was her old cat, a sole pale lavender feather in her mouth.
It is unknown what happened to Estelline. Whether she died, decided to head out to Dominance to aid her flight, left to either help other dragons as she wished or gain more wisdom, or even decided it was time for Melusine to become a teacher, herself, is entirely unknown. All Melusine can do now is to help shape the world as her old mentor dreamed of, and build a clan with hearts good enough to do it.
After Estelline's disappearance, Maelstrom left his pack and flew to Melusine's side to support her, knowing their old friend was gone and the rest was up to the gentle-hearted Tundra. In their efforts to help make the world a better place, the two have fallen for each other, and their combined efforts have not been in vain as they have touched the hearts of wanderers to join their clan centered on benevolence, and they hope their children can continue to spread the light they have kindled.

Melusine herself is not a very talkative individual, and though she is not as reserved as she was in her younger days, she still finds it hard to truly open up to others as she knows her species' memory isn't as sharp as other dragon breeds. Nevertheless, she has a kind heart and tries to heal wounds both physical and mental, as she had learned a trick or two about healing magic back in her youth. As soft-spoken and quiet as she is, she has an intimidating glare that can silence a Guardian. In spite of how she's worked so hard for everything, her greatest fear is if she forgets the reason she started the Morning Rose Tribe in the first place. For this, she is grateful for the feather the old cat had in her jaws, as she can smell and remember everything from those days, even if it's not forever, and vows that the lessons she learned will not be in vain every time the memories resurface. To be safe, though, she's recorded everything in a journal, from the most monumental of events to the most mundane of chores.
As a mate, she and Maelstrom have a quiet but tender relationship. They prefer to show their affection through gestures, not words. Melusine is grateful she has Maelstrom to help her through the perilous process of starting a clan, someone who won't forget as easily or be taken so lightly due to his strength and passion for the cause. A day where they can rest easy and curl up together in the placid sunlight is a day cherished. A day where they fight side by side as Maelstrom tears into his foes, unleashing the fervent ferocity in his blood, and Melusine heals him and supports him with blasts of light is a day loathed but well prepared for. While typically silent, they are joined at the hip, and neither could complain.
As a mother, she is loving, curling up with them at night and telling them the folktales all across the world, smiling seeing the wonderment in their eyes, but ready to put her claws down, especially around the rather vain Feray, using her famously frightening glower to put her offspring in their place should they get cheeky. Nevertheless, her children mean more than life itself to her, and as young adults, she makes sure to teach them of virtue, of everything she learned from her time with Estelline and also from Maelstrom, and tries to shape the future leaders of the tribe.
