Watcher

Watcher is the sole (un)living survivor of a cataclysmic plague that decimated his clan, and spent countless years protecting the desolate remains of his home. However, as the centuries wore on, the contamination dissipated, and he found himself in need of another job. Now, Watcher has found himself a renewed sense of duty, patrolling tirelessly around Kamphundr's territory.

Frightening as he looks, Watcher is more than willing to escort hapless travellers elsewhere. Regardless, anyone looking to do harm had best turn tail before they ever meet his gaze.

Watcher is very private about his life before he was condemned to his current state—it may be that the "plague" that cost his clan their lives may have been more than a simple infection...

The Dominance battles of centuries past bore little resemblance to the friendly competition of the modern day. The eleven flights warred incessantly, tearing the land apart in an effort to wipe all opposition from existence.

During those brutal wars of old, Watcher's family stood proudly amongst the ranks of Icewarden's exalted. Upon reaching maturity, all hatchlings were to be exalted - without exception. For countless generations, they earned high honors and commendations for their unrivaled loyalty and dedication to the Ice Flight, living and ending their lives upon the battlefield.
Watcher was different. When the time came to join his kin in battle, Watcher turned elsewhere.

As a young dragon, Watcher fell in with a little band of alternative thinkers who hoped to one day see all of dragonkind living in harmony. Most proved to be cowards, abandoning their beliefs when threat of lifetime imprisonment came upon them. However, a few held their ground and broke away, fleeing for a fabled patch of neutral land on the fringes of Shadow and Light territory. For years, the little scrap of land housed one of precious few mixed Flight collectives, where dragons came from all over to live peacefully. Thankfully, the powers that be were much more interested in world conquest than a pocket of traitors, and the group never grew big enough to become a threat.

Ironic, then, that a twisted remnant of that clan stands to bring ruin to all of Sorenith.

Besides his usual guard duties, Watcher has a couple of hobbies. In particular, he's fond of whittling, and in a day's work, he can produce a handful of tiny figurines. Being self-taught, Watcher's pieces are often amatuerish, and he typically gives them away.

Every week or so, Watcher carves something special: large carvings of strange, twisted creatures. However, they are not "strange" in the way that most of the wasteland's mutants are. These figures are almost otherworldly, nightmarish even, barely bearing any semblance to the dragons they supposedly represent. Upon finishing one of the bizarre figures, Watcher will promptly take a walk, wandering off to parts unknown; eventually, he returns empty-handed.

The "special" carvings stand out for another reason, however. They are intricately detailed, so much so that some would think Watcher had the subjects right by his side as he worked.

Though he is an Ice dragon, Watcher is completely devoid of magic. According to him, this wasn't always the case, but he's not exactly keen on explaining why.
