Though Kerie was skilled at his job as Sentry, prowling the perimeter of the Gaoler prison in the Fortress of Ends where he and his mate Vivie were born, raised, and employed, he always resented his punitive duties. Worse, his after an attempted jailbreak that Kerie was instrumental in stopping, Gaoler leadership expressed interest in promoting him to an Overseer-- a fate that would confine him permanently to the deepest depths of the prison, guarding Horrorbeasts that were never permitted to see the sun. This prospect was dreadful for Kerie, for whom the only joy he found in his job was the ability to spend time in the wilderness of the Southern Icefields. Worse, he couldn't escape the sinking feeling that the prisoner whose jailbreak he'd stopped deserved to be free. When his Seeker mate captured a mark she couldn't stomach to hand over to the Overseers, Kerie jumped at the chance to flee the service of the Icewarden with Vivie and their new charge in tow-- releasing the prisoner in the process. Kerie is very aware that the Acquisition Division is primarily interested in employing a former Gaoler Sentry as a way of intimidating their trade contacts into staying in line, and is happy to play the role of dangerous enforcer so long as they permit him to pursue his true passion: the plant life of Sornieth. As the clan's lead Forager, Kerie has had the opportunity to explore every corner of the natural world. When he's not out collecting plants for Beta's consumption, experiments, and trade, Kerie can be found fretting over his and Vivie's daughter Glory, whose mate Gored reminds him a little too much of the abominations he used to guard. |
