____Anzu was born from the stars. ____She believes that everything happens for a reason. ____That's why, when she descended from the heavens to a small patch of darkness buried under pools of great hatred, she believed it was her job to bring light to the others. It was her duty to them to provide happiness and optimism and offer strength and reassurance when it was needed, and to dabble in matters that she believed concerned her. ____What she didn't realize, though, was that her optimism might not be wanted, nor well received. ____So, she was cast out of the home that once welcomed her, and left to wander the ruins of a darkened world all alone. ____It took her days, but after wading through thick, dark foliage and walking under shrouded canopies of shadow, she found a clearing. ____The clearing was very small, only twice the size of her, but it was different somehow. Glowing. Colors of all types, more than she ever knew existed, swirled through the air, coalescing into a bright white glow in the very center. ____Slowly, she approached it. The light seemed to swell and grow, pulsing light a heartbeat, as she slowly crept step by step into the center of the glow. Once she reached it, a voice called out to her. ____Who are you, ethereal? the voice called out. ____"I am Anzu," she said as she stopped. "I am lost and without guidance." ____The voice was quiet for a few seconds. What do you most wish? it asked when it next spoke. ____"To help," she replied, not needing any time to think. ____To help? the voice asked, sounding a little surprised. She she said nothing to clarify, it continued So be it. ____The swirling light suddenly began to spin, faster and faster until it was nothing but a small ball of white. The glow rose from chest height until it was nearly level with her head. ____Close your eyes, the voice instructed, and she did as told. A buzzing, warm pressure began to build behind her eyes, and when she next opened them, the world was glowing. ____Alive, buzzing with the energy of life, Anzu could now see it all. The pulse of water beneath the bark of the trees, the leaves of the plants, the blades of grass beneath her feet. And, looking down at her own hands, she could see the pinking hue of her veins snaking beneath her scales. |
