Long ago, when the Shade punched a hole through the magical barrier surrounding the planet, the force field was not the only thing that shattered. Tiny pieces of that encroaching darkness splintered off and descended to the surface of Sornieth. Most were lost to time, but for one unfortunate Wildclaw this nightmare had been embedded into his psyche.

A shard had somehow made its way into the bloodstream of the little dragon. It quickly took hold, and manifested as a sort of conscience. A ‘friend.’ It has been the voice in the back of his head since before the Wildclaw could remember. To him, the being shows itself as a friendly Pearlcatcher, always there to support or aid him. To others, if they manage to catch a glimpse, the beast shows itself as a shadowy monstrosity, black ooze sloughing off of its body.

Deceitful and clever, this fragment of the Shade will say whatever he can to convince his host into doing something, anything sinister. This is helped by the fact that his host isn’t very bright and tends to struggle maintaining friendships. He’s like a caring friend in some ways, and the Wildclaw has come to call him ‘Roary.’ In one breath Roary will comfort and compliment and in another he’ll slip in an idea. Nothing devastating has happened yet, but the ideas get progressively bolder and more disturbing…
