The Guardian growled deeply at him, showing their teeth. Shirogane felt the urge to flee or ruffle his feathers rising inside of him. But instead of giving in to his instincts, he nodded slightly at the Guardian, turned around, and walked away. Now was neither the place nor the time to lose his head... literally.
Personality
|
Shirogane is a very smart dragon. He enjoys all kinds of games that challenge his wits, especially chess and logic puzzles. He is a good loser, who can appreciate if someone beats him honestly. However, he does not tolerate cheating and does not deal well with sour winners or losers. His calm and controlled temper and his pragmatic thinking often confuse some of the other dragons. There are whispers that Shirogane does not feel emotions at all, but everybody who spends time with him knows better than that. He has a heart of gold and works hard to support all dragons in the lair equally. In addition, he is driven by never-sated curiosity and determination. Whenever he encounters a mystery, he will not stop until he understood all the tiny details and uncovered the truth behind it. Whenever he realizes he is clueless, he will retreat into his cave for a while, brooding until he found a solution. Diplomacy is not one of his strength, especially when it comes to friends and his lair comrades. To them, he speaks with brutal honesty, but he usually means no harm. Still, others find this trait of his irritating. Nevertheless he is a leader and even role model to some dragons, which he enjoys a lot and tries to make the best out of. |
Background
Shirogane was born and raised in a large clan in the Crystalspine Reaches. Ever since he was an adolescent, the observatory on top of Focal Point symbolized a limitless well of knowledge to him, holding all the answers to questions he couldn't even think of. Hoping to understand more of this world he was living in, him and a few friends one day approached the tower. However, the Coatl Claudius got in their way. He forbid Shirogane to enter the observatory, claiming he was sick and an unlucky charm. Shirogane’s friends started defending him and it was only thanks to Shirogane’s calm intervention that no blood was shed that day. He convinced his travelling companions to precede to the arcanist. He himself instead would find a way to prove Claudius wrong and enable all dragons to join the arcanist’s ranks. While he knew what goal he tried to achieve, Shirogane did not know how he would achieve it. He stayed at Starwood Strand, brooding over the next steps to take. There, he met Alaysa, who was just as lost as himself. He decided to stay with her and join forces to discover the truth. |
Relationships
Shirogane met Alaysa while she was roaming between the trees of Starwood Strand. Inquisitive as he is, he approached her and the two of them had a long conversation about Claudius, but also about themselves, their pasts, and their dreams. Shirogane was amazed by Alaysa's idealism and the dreams she followed, dreams of discovery and knowledge. Over time, Shirogane found more and more delight talking to the smart Tundra. She even shared his love for logical puzzles, even if not to the same degree. He thinks she is a great leader, but should be more determined in her decisions. Often, the two of them spend hours talking, or share hours of silence, watching the stars. |
Shirogane values Ornes highly. He appreciates the work the other puts into the clan, his determination, and his never-ending helpfulness. He also enjoys the talks he has with the healer, where the other shows both cleverness and curiosity. Overall, Ornes seems just too perfect… a fact that instills jealousy inside of Shirogane. He, too, would like to be as good with words as the healer, as charming, as funny, and as popular. But he knows that he is just the ice-cold pragmatic strategist he always was. |
Ever since Shirogane first met Lune, something about her fascinated him. The way she talked about things, the ease with which she understood even complex patterns, and her never ending curiosity… all together showed a talent Shirogane wanted to support and see thriving. He sat together with Lune for a while, trying to find something she could use the bright head of hers. Finally, they ended up with tinkering and Shirogane set everything in motion for her to get her own workshop. He still sees herself as her mentor and is incredibly proud of what she achieves. |
