Personality: Vega is generally friendly and good-natured. She likes to play and show off, and thrives under the attention and praise of others. Occasionally her propensity for showing off can escalate into putting others down, however, and when unmonitored she can be something of a bully. She takes criticism extremely poorly, and tends to throw tantrums when she doesn't feel sufficiently appreciated.. History: One wouldn't assume upon meeting Vega that she's endured any sort of tragedy in her life. Indeed, to her recollection she hasn't. But it is not happy circumstances that ever bring a young dragon into Changeling's forest, and Vega is no exception to that rule. If asked where her parents are, she wouldn't understand the concept. What's a parent? Mom? Dad? You're being weird! Her egg hatched all alone, abandoned deep within the foxfire bramble. Despite being so young, she was forced almost immediately to flee from the nest, as something huge with terrifying teeth was snuffling around it. As she bolted between the monster's legs, she thought she saw a limp form a short ways off, but she didn't have time to look at it too closely. Ordinarily, a baby orphaned before she even hatched would not last long. With no skills to keep herself alive, no ability to defend herself, and no clan to protect her, the young pearlcatcher should have died. But she had an ally- the little smudge of darkness that followed her wherever she went, her shadow. Though Vega herself never knew it, coming to think of "Mr. Dark" as her special friend, with her last breath Vega's mother had used her magic to bind her ghost to her baby's shadow. The shadow protected Vega from predators, brought her food, and though it could not speak, it played games to keep her company. When eventually changeling found Vega, he immediately knew the ghost for what it was. Bearing an intense dislike for all adult dragons, and particularly for those who abandon or betray their hatchlings (even, as in the case of Vega's mother, through no fault of their own) he did not approve of the shadow's continued possession. Taking Vega into his forest where she would be safe, he uses his magic to force the ghost to keep its distance. To his eternal annoyance he can't exorcise it entirely, only chase it off. It yet lingers on the edges of the twilight forest, a strange smudge of darkness flitting in the canopy of the trees, always near to Vega while not drawing close enough to earn Changeling's ire. Vega herself is, of course, oblivious to all of this. She is finally somewhere completely safe, and she is content in that. |
