Biography
“I know you’re not a demon, you don’t act like a demon,” Yuld says, crossing his arms as he faces down the dark, looming figure. It smiles, teeth gleaming even in the darkness. Twelve sickly yellow eyes blink open, but even the unnatural color and piercing stare don’t phase Yuld even slightly - he has a pair of his own, after all.
“Oh? Then what do you believe I am?” The creature’s voice is silky smooth, but it’s as cold and emotionless as a chip of ice. Yuld is used to dealing with all manner of horrifying beings, having spent plenty of time perusing forbidden tomes in the library, but hearing this thing speak makes even his skin crawl. “You think you can even begin to comprehend such a presence as me, ‘mad scholar’?”
“I’m not a mad scholar,” Yuld snaps. The dark mass laughs, twisting in on itself until it becomes a soft, golden flame. It’s deceptively warm, and Yuld instinctively leans into the heat.
“I can see your past lives, little one, you don’t have to hide it from me. We are kin… the same eyes. I know your desires, the things you hide from the world… I may not be a demon, but I would so love to make a deal with you.”
- Lore by NirnrootNoises
-has long, matted hair he never bothers to maintain, haphazardly tied up in places to keep it out of his face
-skinny, underfed build from too many meals skipped while studying
-wears nice scholar's clothes, like a dress shirt or robes, but always looks a bit disheveled
-ancient being, shoved into the body of a dragon after his mortal enemy tricked him one fateful time
-on an endless quest to catch said enemy and fulfill his revenge
-has been through many lives in many bodies - each time he is reborn he retains minimal knowledge of the past, so he has begun to keep a record of his lives and findings
-this tome is vital to him - it basically is him
-he has just enough memory programmed in to find the volume wherever it is, tied by deep magic (perhaps written in his own golden blood?) and so he can sense its location
-so it’s like his diary and life story written with the same sloppy cursive life after life
-the reason for his scholarly interests, however, go beyond that
-he searches forbidden books for the slightest hint of his enemy - he can tell in the details when they are the subject and pieces together these clues in his search
-a folktale, a myth, a sighting of a strange animal - all are much more, they are vital
-also searches for a way to return to his former glory, hoping the times can help unbind him from this wretched cycle of fragile vessels
-the thing is now he can’t do a lot of what he used to be able to, and over centuries his nemesis could have migrated anywhere - yuld’s behind the times and very much needs to catch up
-now pacted to another of his kind(?) he has some small advantages - by allowing the other to cohabit his body for a short time, gains more effective abilities and shared knowledge
-he’s also bound to hold up his end of the bargain though - he did not rush into this blindly but it doesn’t mean he forsaw everything - he might easily be double-crossed, and he well knows it
-this life is particularly problematic because after so many it could be his last - should his soul become bound to an emperor, he’d be dead-ended in his quest
-so he searches for a way around this (currently, isolation from other imperials) and hastens in his quest for answers
-is referred to as the mad scholar for his appearances and reclusive behaviors, though when spoken to he will be courteous enough, if a little quiet and notably restless/uncomfortable
-trusts not a soul with his purpose or identity, extremely secretive and a good actor, has never taken a mate nor even had interest in one
