Link is an old-fashioned adventurer. He's a descendant of dragons from an old kingdom who called themselves Hylians and were at home in the Windswept Plateau. He spent his youth venturing all across Sonrieth in search of the ancient Shade-swarming beast that Hylians believe collapsed their empire. He doesn't talk much of his past at the Baikonur Spaceflight Agency, because Lightning dragons don't really believe tall tales easily, and he has a suspicion they're talking behind his back. But after a hard day, if he's out camping, he'll lighten the mood by telling tales of his past adventures, which seem too good to be true--until the skills he learned from them come in handy!

Regardless of where Link got his present-day survival skills from, he works for the BSA as a survival trainer of the cosmonaut corps. In the event of an emergency deorbit, cosmonauts could end up quite literally anywhere on the planet. The BSA wastes no expense to help the cosmonauts train to survive in the wild. They regularly transport Link and a class of cosmonauts to remote places in all the elemental regions of Sonrieth, where Link teaches them how to stay alive and find safety in the wild.

While he doesn't like talking about his past to most people, he bonded with Watney because they both have pretty strange pasts that no one ever believes. Watney's claims of memories of past lives fit well into Hylian spiritual beliefs, and Link's own past reminds Watney of things he remembers of his last life's home planet. The two are almost inseparable when their off hours line up right.

Link is probably the only person ever to have tried to bring a sword into work. He got in an argument with security the first time he tried. They were (understandably) scared that Link would try to hurt someone with it, but Link claimed it was an heirloom of the Hylian throne and he wasn't going to leave it at home waiting to be stolen. In the end, he won, provided he brought it directly to his office and left it there during the day. That's not to say he's always complied; Showing up to surprise meetings with a sword is one hell of a way to start your morning.

He plays an enchanted wind instrument that's only crafted by the Hylian diaspora. Naturally, no one in the BSA had ever seen it before he brought it out one evening while training some cosmonauts on survival procedures in the Gladeveins. He calls it an ocarina. Its effects aren't always apparent, but cosmonauts agree there's no more calming way to spend a cold evening than relaxing while Link soothes the winds with the instrument.

He doesn't have a familiar, but he's friends with an aviar named Kass. The Hylians traditionally got along with Beastclan, but the peace between them disappeared as Hylians were forced to assimilate with greater Wind Flight culture. Link, as a warrior for his former empire, was able to gain the trust of a few Beastclan, including Kass. Kass is a bard whose family passed down a song about another Hylian warrior, so he and Link became quick friends.
