A master of camouflage, Kavleyn's colouration allows him to disappear into the foliage. Or it would, if he was in any of the other ten flights. Unfortunately, his advantage of colouration is lost in the Starfall Isles, where trees are more pink and purple than orange and green. On the bright side, even if you spot him, his ability to stay still might convince you into thinking that he's just a very odd tree.

In charge of taking care of hatchlings (mostly because we're not trusting Nanshe with that), Kavleyn can most often be found in the hatchery. Of course, taking care of the hatchery also extends to taking care of eggs, so most dragons have tasked him with more taking care of the entire shebang than just hatchling-sitting. Kavleyn would complain more if he wasn't resigned to the fact that nobody else can be trusted with the light of the clan's future. Knowing some of his clanmates - well, he doesn't even want to know what Muffin would do with a den full of hatchlings.

Despite all evidence to the contrary, Kavleyn does love his job. But what he likes about it isn't the heavy responsibility and prestige that comes with the job, he likes it because it keeps him close to his favourite object - feathers. In the name of feathery fluffiness, he will abuse his power to the ends of time to get his claws on more feathers. And his clanmates can't even complain when he asks them to get rare, exotic feathers from harpies, especially when he insists that he's buying them for the hatchlings.

Rumours say that he has a secret chamber filled with his collection of feathers. Research is currently underway - or would be, if Astraea wasn't such a featherbrain.

The only dragon Kavleyn allows in the hatchery aside from parents and the clan leaders is Nanshe. Technically speaking, Nanshe is supposed to be the primary caretaker, but that's just because nobody can keep him away from the hatchlings even if they wanted to. Kavleyn has shouldered most of the responsibilities, from cleaning up to making sure the unhatched eggs don't float off, while Nanshe is more in charge of keeping the hatchling distracted. When they're both off duty (aka the hatchlings aren't in danger of blowing themselves up), the two can be found preening Nanshe's feathers. Kavleyn loves, LOVES preening, because it gives him an excuse to collect the feathers of his Skydancer clanmates. Said Skydancer clanmates would be more thrilled if he wasn't so clueless about what was a stray feather and what's a much-needed pinion. Except Nanshe. Nanshe doesn't notice, then again, he's so fluffy it's not like he's going to miss a few feathers anyway.

When he's not minding the hatchery, Kavleyn hangs out around other dragons - literally, since he has a habit of curling around the nearest object that resembles a tree and staying there for the entirety of the day. This would almost be cute, if the nearest objects didn't include other dragons. Once, Venti found Kavleyn wound around his foreleg. After attempting and failing to get him off, Venti gave up and just learned to go about the day with a boot he didn't ask for. Since then, Kavleyn has been good friends with Venti. Partially because the Skydancer tolerates him, but more so because the wind mage's feathers are just so pretty and silky and Kavleyn wouldn't be able to stay away from them anyway.

Another dragon Kavleyn gets along with is Viper, who is eternally excited to hear his stories of the snakes that prowl around the territory of the Fire Flight. Kavleyn was the one who introduced buttersnakes to the clan, and more importantly - Hydras! The only ones excited by this was Viper, who'd love even the odd snake, and Nephthys, who's only enthusiastic about certain doom. While the rest of the clan isn't entirely as happy, they've just learned to check any shadowy areas for Hydras. Nobody's gotten eaten yet, or at least, nobody important enough to be noticed, and that's good enough for the rest of them.

One unlikely dragon Kavleyn gets along with is Vespera, the clan's writer, reporter, scribe galore. The two can be found in the library working on Vespera's newest edition, with Vespera doing the writing and Kavleyn doing the editing, because he can actually be depended on to get the grammar right. Vespera is proud to have him as an underling and gives him endless supplies of books and pens, most of which Kavleyn's dedicated to writing fanfics about Venti and Viper. Not that they need to know, of course. But Venti's starting to wonder if other dragons know about his crush on Viper.

As one of the few fire dragons in the clan, Kavleyn's firepower is taken advantage of, because there are just some things you can't do with arcane explosions. Usually, just this just means he's needed to light the fires in the kitchen, but sometimes, Kavleyn's actually in charge of cooking as well. Which makes him what - hatchling whisperer, editor, fanfic writer, and occasional boot that cooks things?

That boa is a gift from Viper, and the true owner of the bow and arrows Kavleyn carries around because Spirals have tiny dino arms that just can't do the stretchy stretch needed for shooting. Kavleyn usually just holds the bow in place while the snake does all the shooting, although he sometime holds the target in place while the snake does the shooting. Either way, while he can't put up much of a fight by himself, Kavleyn's got one killer snake you don't want to cross. His name, feared by archers from all four corners of the world, is... Asdfghjkl.

It's pronounced exactly the way it's spelled.
