CALIBAN
Merchant || Trader
Merchant || Trader
--- ♦ ---
Far into the parched grasslands on the edge of the Shattered Plain laid the home of a nomadic clan. A few elders ever stayed there indefinitely housed in an elaborate encampment with crates and chests full of goods and wares. They sold and traded for a living. Their entire clan was open-spaced and set up like a market stall for the occasional passerby to spend some coin or earn it. This is where Caliban was born. His mother was a trader who once traveled the world and lulled him to sleep with the stories of the world beyond the rocky plains. His father must have been one too, much like her. All the Coatl knew was that on one of his father's mercenary trips, he never returned. This still didn't stop Caliban from culling his ambitious heart. As he grew not only did he learn the ways of trade and society but languages that branch out far from the Coatl dialect that he was raised by. He's fluent in the normal Draconic languages and has even been taught sign language to accommodate the Fae. Quite charming and softly-spoken, Caliban is an expert at marketing his goods. He could pick up a stone from the middle of a road and be able to sell it to a commoner with mere story and description which he has perfected in his adulthood. It didn't take long for him to earn enough coin to part ways from Dragonhome and follow his mother's stories about the best places of trade in Sornieth. The plan is to set up shop in a new region which he can call home and use his talents to bring fortune to his future lair. --- ♦ --- |

One evening, Caliban found himself browsing the wares of a fellow merchant in hopes of finding an item he would be able to sell at a higher price later. As he found something that caught his eye, a strange Nocturne seemingly appeared out of thin air and quickly purchased the item for himself. This wouldn't bother Caliban if not for the fact that the Nocturne continuously nabbed what Caliban was hoping to buy. The Coatl was beginning to reach a breaking point, and lashed out at the Nocturne in spite of his soft-spoken nature. The Nocturne only laughed and went about his merry way off to another stand. Caliban didn't see the humor that the Nocturne did, and made a commitment to try to grab an item before the Nocturne could. Caliban found no success, however. The Nocturne was too slick, and as his glimmering cloak swished about as he wiggled in excitement over his new possession, the Coatl felt his anger simmering into sadness. At that moment, he began to think about his inferiority to the Nocturne and how better he seemed to be. As if the Nocturne could sense his feelings, he reached out and gave Caliban the item he had just purchased. The dragon explained that he really enjoyed having the Coatl as a trader-rival, and that their similar tastes were quite refreshing from what the Nocturne usually experienced. He offered Caliban the opportunity to become the Nocturne's partner, and "rule the economy", he said. Caliban didn't take kindly to the Nocturne at first, especially for such a quick attitude change. However, as the Nocturne continuously helped Caliban with his sales, he began to warm up to him. After a while, he agreed to his offer. You can often find the two selling many trinkets, like golden rocks, or golden bones. And the Coatl now finds himself at home with the Nocturne's clan, although sometimes he tires of constantly using the golden spray can.. --- ♦ --- |
