Frostbite hummingbirds are the messengers of the Icewarden. These tiny beings are minor ice spirits and not living, breathing birds at all.

Born a Fae in the Starfall Islands, Affogato used to have a very ordinary life. She would assist her clan in studying and testing various theories, found a mate and had hatchlings - A life that left her thoroughly unsatisfied and yearning for more. After careful consideration, she decided to leave her old life behind and head to the Southern Icefield; her hatchlings were all grown up by then, gone to serve the Arcanist in some way. There, she thought, she could do some good by lending her magic and knowledge to assist the various refugee camps that were cropping up due to the unrest in the Frigid Floes.

And help she would, although not in a way she had ever envisionned.

Barely a week after her arrival, she shed her kin's blood for the first time.

She had had some martial training in the Starfall Isles but she never expected to put it to the test. A raiding party of the Lightning Flight had descended on the refugee camp she was stationed in, intending on razing it to the ground. Thanks to a swift intervention by a local Clan, the casualities on her side had been limited but not entirely avoided. She could've been proud of the fact that she was able to hold her own (and even contribute) in the defense of the camp or she could have been upset at the depth of her naiveté for assuming the location she chose to assist would be spared by the war simply because it was far from the frontline but instead, she felt devastated. It would take her some time to cope with just how monstrous the raiding party had been - not in appearance, of course, but at how they had been merciless enough to slaughter innocent dragons. The refugees were already beaten and driven away from their homes, still recovering from injuries from their escape or simply too old or young to defend themselves. There was no reason to try to slaughter them and yet, she would learn the attack she had weathered was only one amongst many.

It's her inability to cope with the atrocities she witnessed that drove her to seek out a way to provide more than humanitarian relief. She petitioned the Knight that had come to the refugees' aid to allow her to aid him in his cause. He was reluctant, at first, but they needed more soldiers and she was a competent enough fighter, if inexperienced. She followed him to Teller's Rise, his home, which was populated by a handful of dragons at the time. They had been tasked to assist the defense of the Frigid Floes, a task far too great for their small clan but one they tackled head on with the doggedness typical of Ice Flight dragons. They were good people, caring, brave and virtuous and who wanted nothing more than to protect their kin against the invaders.

Their beliefs were strong but against the flames of war, not even the ice could preserve them.

All Flights had their secrets but that of the children of the Icewarden was particularly chilling. The simple facts that creatures made from the Shade were imprisoned deep in the Fortress of Ends was distressing enough on its own but when taking into consideration the raging war and constant warming and shrinkage of the Southern Icefields, the situation looked beyond bleak.

The dragons of Teller's Rise were all willing to die for their duty but there would be times where the weight of the situation would take a toll on their morale. While their faith would remain strong, the burden, sometimes, their conviction would waver. When that happened, they would turn to the dew individuals who would remain stoic no matter the burden.

They were called Priests and Affogato was one of them.

Her quick rise through the Priesthood could've been seen as risky due to her lack of experience and her being a foreigner, but Teller's Rise was too small at the time to be discriminating. There was no denying her leadership skills or the speed at which she learned, from local customs to spell-slinging; it wasn't long before she looked nothing like the frazzled Fae that begged to join the clan. She became a powerful mage in her own right, a competent diplomat and an inspirational figure. In Teller's Rise's darkest moment, her unwavering devotion in the face of overwhelming odds would burn like a stubborn ember in a dying hearth and, eventually, rekindle her companions' faith.
