Biography
HUMMINGBIRD the MUSICIAN current work in progress |
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━
The villagers often gather to hear the soft, melodic tones of Hummingbird's harp deep within the dryad's orchard. They regard him and his songs warmly; lulled into calmness by his pleasant voice and magically-imbued notes. He is a kind soul, polite and always obliging in the requests of those around him — he has a soft spot for hatchlings who hound him for nursery rhymes. Even the young poet, Carnivale, looks up to him with wonder in his eyes; and Hummingbird happily plays the poems and sonnets the aspiring writer presents to him. He is blind, having been all throughout his life. The beautiful flowers that bloom from his eyes, he reassures, were never the cause, but his answers only seem to spark more curiosity in those around him. They respect his privacy, however, letting him retain the secrets of a past he always seems to recall with a tired, forlorn sigh. |

It was deep within the forest of his old home he met them, a dryad much like Yew and Magnolia themselves, when their voice joined alongside his harp. Awe-struck, and with a fluttering heart, he vowed to visit again and again to hear their songs once more. For seasons the two of them sang together; songs that brought spring to the woodland and melted wintertime snows. And yet, each morning and each night, they would sorrowfully part. They could not abandon the beautiful, flowering tree they were so closely tied to — to come home with Hummingbird would be the end of all their songs. Determined, and unaware of his beloved's fate, he begged them to marry him so they might share the rest of their seasons together. They rejected him, heartbroken yet insistent, but he remained too selfish and foolish to listen. He returned to their forest a final time, a soft song in his throat and on his harp, to summon them forth. He led them through the winding woodland paths, music never ceasing, until the light beyond the trees shone in their eyes and they blinked away his magic. Furious at his deceit and free of his spell, the dryad uttered a curse to follow him throughout the rest of his days. Flowers, like the blooms that grew from their tree, sprouted from where his eyes once were and sprang from the ground he walked. They then left him at the edge of the forest; left him to realize what he had done and what he had brought upon himself. It was then that he fled from his old home — a path of brilliant flowers following him towards Thistledown Village. |
