The name Siegmund is a Germanic name meaning "victorious protector" or "protector of victory."

‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ ‍ Siegmund is the long-lost twin brother of Sieglinde in Richard Wagner's opera The Ring of the Nibelung. When the twins reunite in adulthood, they fall in love and commit a taboo by bearing a child together. He is based off of Sigmund, a character from the epics Völsunga Saga and Nibelungenlied.
