B I O G R A P H Y

Zerila often appeared mysteriously and without fanfare. She came and went as she pleased, despite the complaints of her fellow clanmates. Often, the cherry blossoms outside Top-Up Ramen Shop and the lantanna in August’s windowsill withered and shriveled up. She was in charge of beautifying the clan’s breezeways; Zerila couldn’t dump her duties on Zahhak every time she felt like going for a fly. But leave she did, and always the flowers wilted the second she left the ground.

Her powers, much like Zahhak, were connected to the natural world around her. But unlike Zahhak, Zerila’s powers reflected more on flowers than the earth. Zerila was intimately familiar with the language of flowers, and many often came to her for bouquets to profess love or to insult and individual. Though she enjoyed figuring out to say “I love you” in different arrangements, the bouquets made out of spite were her favorite. It was a more colorful way to declare one’s ire than by words.

Zerila often worked with another dragon named Antiope. As the clan’s event coordinator, Antiope often found herself in need of Zerila’s beautification skills. From years of working together, Zerila found herself growing closer to and more affectionate with Antiope, often crafting bouquets just for her. It had started with simple friendship flowers, but quickly escalated to flowers that proclaimed love. Over time, Zerila taught Antiope how to speak from the flowers herself, and she accepted these new bouquets with a kiss and a smile.

_Flower Speech_

____Acacia. Arbutus. Bellflower. Gorse. Clovenlip toadflax. Violet lilac and violet rose. Arranged artfully in a way to titillate the eyes and hopefully convey the message that Zerila hoped to give. She had never been good with spoken words. She hoped Antiope had learned enough of the language of flowers that she knew what this bouquet would mean. Zerila’s claws shook as she held the flowers in front of her. Her pearl was wedged under her arm awkwardly as she waited for Antiope to appear.

And there she was--gliding down to the secret glade. This was where Zerila often came to meditate with flowers. Antiope alighted in front of Zerila, making her jump and nearly drop her pearl. Zerila didn’t speak as Antiope approached, she just thrust out the bouquet for Antiope to take. The flowers slid from her claws, and Zerila peered down at the ground between them. A gentle claw under Zerila’s chin made her jump, and she lifted her face to study Antiope’s. Her eyes crossed as, lightly and gently as petals from a rose, Antiope pressed her lips to Zerila’s.

_Catching Z's_

____Maruchan’s cherry blossoms were wilting again. The flox outside Milan’s office were too dry. Someone had gotten sick in the ficus pots outside the Collapsible Tavern again. Zerila was exhausted, and on top of all of those duties, she had flowers to prepare for a birthday celebration that Antiope was tasked with planning. Zerila wanted sleep. She wanted Zahhak to help her. She wanted to just leave some peonies outside her door and be done with the day.

But alas, should she avoid her tasks, Zerila would get an earful from Milan, and that was scarier than a flowerless clan. Zerila trudged around the breezeway, whispering to the flowers that needed tending as she passed. Though it would take a few hours before the plants returned to their full radiance, the process was started and no one could tell Zerila off for shirking her job. She'd worry about the birthday flowers tomorrow. The use of magic drained her energy, though, and she couldn’t stifle any of her yawns as she trudged back home to Antiope.
