History has always fascinated those who have a desire to know their past. A desire to look beyond the curtains of time and to just glimpse what life was like long ago. Calihan is one of those curious dragons who has devoted his life to such mysteries. He specializes in archeology, where he is able to find remnants of a civilization not seen in this world since the second age. Many nights have been spent with the young dragon bent over his desk trying to decipher old script, or trying to put back together an artifact that has been forgotten with time. He speaks about his findings whenever and with whoever will listen to him. He wants so badly to share the knowledge that fuels his passion, but many dragons in the clan don't seem to care. The only dragons that always listen to him are his parents, and he suspects that's more because they love him rather than because they actually have an interest in what he's saying. On one of his last expeditions, Calihan accidentally unleashed what he is referring to as "the curse". He found a decorative gold box in an abandoned temple, one that was very ornate and old. When opened, he found a pearl inside. It was large, like the ones pearlcatchers carry around all the time. Little did he know, that pearl was something spectacular and scary. The pearl drew him in, and every day that he held it, he changed a little more. He began to lose his heavy fur coat, and what fur remained became bleaker and striped. The thylacine marks that his mother loved so much disappeared, and new glowing rune-like marking appeared in their place. Every morning Calihan felt his bones shift, and every night he felt the pains of two horns growing on his face. Before long, he was unrecognizable, even to his own parents. He had grown up a sturdy tundra, strikingly similar to his father, and now he was just a stranger. His only guess is that he now appears to look like the last owner of the ornate gold box. No matter what he does, he can't seem to change back, and he has begun to lose hope that he ever will. The pearl that has changed his life so much still lies with him. He can't seem to let it go, no matter how much he wants too. So, he carries it around much like how other pearlcatcher's carry theirs.
