She could feel the pain beneath her skin, through her veins and in her soul. It roiled and pulsated, needled and stabbed. Her breath caught, shoulders heaving, hand clawing at her skin and scales until she was scratched and bleeding and crying.

Phantom pain, the healers told her. It was all psychological. Just her imagination.

She wished her mind would stop. Wished it would all go away and that she could be normal and happy and carefree.

Her every step was laden, her every move agonizing.

Everything hurt.
