Ash
The reborn

"I don't belong to the Plague or the Shadows, I belong to me."

Ash was born a Shadow dragon. She spent her days as a hatchling pranking the older dragons and running around with her fellow friends. She stalked in the shadows, spyed on dragons from other elements, and best of all prepared herself for her firefly ceremony. Ash was of a royal family. Her mother and father were very close friends of the Shadow her self. Because Ash was a royal, she got the rare chance to have a firefly ceremony. This was when a royal, shadow, hatchling was sent out into the night, to catch him/herself a pack of fireflies. The fireflies would test the hachlings, giving them riddles, fighting them, or testing their knowledge to see if the hatchling deserved those fireflies. Vert few failed, and those who bonded with the fireflies they caught, additionally caught themselves a group of loyal friends.

Finally, it was Ash's turn. Before she was sent out, she was reminded some very important information:
-White?Cream fireflies were of the highest rank, they meant power, royalty, and strength. Ash's parents and almost all of her siblings had white fireflies.

- Blue/Purple/Pink/Green (Can be any shade) fireflies meant creativity. These fireflies usually gave riddle or art tests (Ex. Make a cloth out of moss). The dragons who received these fireflies became artists/spys.

- Lastly Brown/Gold/Red/Orange/Yellow fireflies symbolized magic. The dragons who captured these were given a certain ability (Ex. Telepathy, Invisibility, Telekinesis). These dragons worked closely with the Shadow Mother along with all the military/Royalty leaders (Like Ash's parents).

But Ash was also warned. That year, the Plague Bringer had poisoned a few selected fireflies with a deadly plague. At all costs, Ash was to avoid these fireflies. Bond with them, and you would catch the plague and die.
These fireflies had become any shade of black/grey.

Then, Ash was sent out into the night to find her loyal pack.

Almost as soon as Ash was out into the darkness, she spotted a soft grey light in the distance. A firefly.
This firefly was infected, yet Ash had forgotten the warning in all her excitement. And instead of running away, she gave chase.

The firefly was startled to see a little young dragon running towards it. It knew about the plague that now explored its body, so it flew away, trying to lose the young dragon on its tail.

They were like this for hours. The firefly flying away, the young Ash chasing it at top speed. Finally Ash leap forward, grabbing the firefly in her claws.

"YOUR MINE!"
Ash exclaimed happily, hugging the firefly.

The firefly sagged in despair, it already knew the plague had transferred into the hatchling, clawing its way to her heart. In a matter of seconds, she would be dead.

The firefly was right.....

As the moon set and the sun started to rise, Ash collapsed into a heap on the forest floor.

Her parents, who had been watching the whole night, like all the other hatchlings parents when their hatchling had their ceremony, grieved but left Ash behind.

Ash cried as the plague messed with her brain.

She shivered as the plague made her delusional

She coughed up blood as her heart twisted

And finally, she was still.

But then, something extraordinary happened.
Ash breathed.

The firefly that Ash had caught had protected her. It had used magic (For it used to be a magic firefly before the plague) to keep her alive.

This caught the PlagueBringers attention. Quickly before the ShadowBinder could find out, the mother of all plagues took Ash and brought her to her lair.

There, Ash was reborn.
The PlagueBringer took her memories of the shadow world and erased them. She remade Ash, changing her color, turning her into an adult dragon, and lastly taking as much of the plague away from. Then she set her free.

The next time Ash opened her eyes, they were a bright red.
The left side of her face was horrid. Covered in red scars, the left overs of the plague. (Ash quickly found a white half mask to cover that side of her face).
Her scales had become darker, almost black.
And she was surrounded by millions of grey fireflies. All carrying the same plague, all assigned to protect the Plague Bringers new daughter by the PlagueBringer herself.

Ash lifted her head to the shinning moon and watched her new fireflies flit around her,

"Lets go my friends, we have many journeys before us....."
