Biography
Kurimu
Messanger
(Carries physical messages from dragon to dragon) "So we fight overnight and over lifetimes Organize for that warp drive And of course I realize That we're a long way from it But what better reason to start runnin'?" -"Matches", by Sifu Hotman
Kurimu is an intelligent dragon, but one who has somehow avoided the cynicism that
generally infects the intelligent like a disease. At the very core of his being, since the day he hatched, Kurimu has only wanted to make people happy. As he grew, he wasn't sure how, exactly, to complete that goal, and only became more anxious as time went on, as (in his eyes) Kurimu was no closer to his self-decided purpose than he had been before. However, as he became more and more adept at flying, outclassing even his skydancer peers with his sheer agility and general skill, an idea dawned on him: he could use his skill in flight to carry letters and other messages! Certainly, he reasoned, to hear from a far-away friend in a timely manner would bring a smile to any dragon's face.
Thus, Kurimu began spending time training himself to fly with a cylinder full of papers
(and the occasional other item, attached to the letter(s)); Kurimu blossomed under the flight instructor's (Siridia's), teachings, quickly becoming just as agile while encumbered as he was without any luggage. Siridia, proud of his accomplishment, directed him to his first job - ferrying a letter or two between Victoire and one of her clients. Kurimu completed the job in record time, bringing Victoire the response as soon as he'd landed back in the camp. After proving he was a capable, reliable messenger, demand for Kurimu's help grew exponentially, carrying upwards of fifty letters across Sornieth on his busiest days.
However, during a slow day, Kurimu was on a return trip to his clan when he was
suddenly struck by several airborne attackers. Five harpies swarmed him, screeching, shredding his wings as he tried to fight back, falling faster and faster as more air simply went through his wings instead of being pushed by them. Eventually, seeing there was no way he could drive the harpies off, Kurimu pulled in what was left of his wings and dove for the dense cover of the Viridian Labyrinth. He drug himself home, doing his best to keep the letters he'd been carrying from dragging along the ground, eventually being found by Crusade as he stumbled through the territory. Leaning on the other wildclaw, the two made their way to the main camp, and from there, to Serania, who bandaged and stitched his wounds.
Immediately after delivering the letters, Kurimu sought out Siridia for an assessment of
his future ability to fly. Siridia, despite believing that Kurimu wouldn't be able to fly again, told him he'd have to work his way back to functionality - so Kurimu did. He exercised his wings every day, flapping to the best of his ability while on the ground and seeing how high he could fly without stopping from an "assisted takeoff" (jumping from a ledge instead of using his own power), putting in practice for gliding as well. Within about a year, Kurimu was flying again, though he could only manage a slightly slower than average speed, and had to take frequent breaks for long flights; he would never regain the prowess he'd had over the activity before, but to fly as he was capable of now was enough to continue delivering smiles, so he was happy.
