B I O G R A P H Y

It was unanimously agreed by every dragon in the Outpost that Garmr was never going to be normal. As for why, no one dragon could agree. Perhaps it was because Nox was sitting on a nest at the same time? Keeping eggs anywhere near the nest of a Shadeborn dragon was surely a terrible idea. Or perhaps it was because her father is Fenris, a more disturbing dragon than even his clanmates give him credit for; or that her egg never shone as brightly as any of the others. Or maybe it was the fact that Brynhildr had decided on the name of the hatchling before the egg even hatched, speaking in the signature way that indicated Fenris was feeding her the words.
Yeah, it was probably that.

But either way, when Garmr hatched it was clear that something was... wrong. There was something in the hatchling's eyes. Viewed from straight on, they were light's golden yellow, but when a dragon looked away they could see them... change. To a deep purple, or some days, a pure and unreflective black. If they then tried to focus on that, look at her out of the corner of their eye and confirm that they were not seeing things, the unfortunate dragon would be hit with an overwhelming feeling of sickening fear, like some primal instinct had been triggered. So it was no surprise that some clan members were unsettled by the way the hatchling could often be found at her father's heel-- and were more unsettled when she couldn't be.

As the hatchling grew, many were hoping that --like Brynhildr's other hatchlings-- she would take more after her mother than her father. However, it became more and more obvious that this was not the case. For starters, she runs on all fours, unlike most Wildclaws. And, similar to her father, did not talk either. But unlike Fenris, she does
vocalize-- but the only noises she makes are bestial; shrieks, growls, hisses and howls. Sometimes, these noises resemble words. Key word: resemble. That doesn't stop her communicating, however, for like her father she is the wielder of a particularly nasty form of telepathy.

If Garmr is not standing right in front of them, the recipient will see nothing unusual at first. But those that can see her will see her seemingly disappear into a black void, which then takes the shape of a shadowy figure that looks like a disturbing cross between wolf and some kind of wingless tundra dragon. This is the form she chooses to speak, and all of her words ring with a kind of ominous authority-- If she speaks an opinion, the listener will always see it as right in some way; if she speaks a command, the listener will feel an inexplicable urge to follow; a question, and they will be compelled to answer. This isn't all-powerful, but going against her words in this way requires a strong will and an even stronger stomach.

As she grew, Garmr disappeared from her father's side more and more often. Since this was a cause for concern, several clan members began to look for her whenever this happened, but if they ever found her, they haven't spoken of it. Each time she returned, she looked a little more worn down-- there would be thorns stuck in her tail, blood on her claws, a feather or two missing from her headcrest. It was unclear whether she was wandering the Hewn City, or had gone even further and was now exploring the Shadowbinder's domain.
So of course, there eventually came a day where Garmr disappeared altogether.

No living dragon saw her again until she wandered into Wispwalker territory, where she stumbled upon one of Smoglurker's herb gathering runs. He tried to shoo her away at first, but eventually decided to take her back to meet Moonlord, after she took control of his Nightmare for a brief period and made it lead her to the clan's cavern. Moonlord wanted to have her chased out, but one telepathic sentence was all it took for Garmr to cement her place as one of the four dragons the Guardian is scared of.

Opinions of her within the clan are... mixed, at best. Arcaestain avoids her like she's a Plague dragon, ever since the first time their telepathic powers clashed and they were both knocked unconscious for two days from the mental stress. It's unclear how Sleetshade feels about there being another elemental shifter in the clan, especially one who's eyes still shift regularly.

But despite her intimidating, possibly shade-touched nature, she has been shown to be kind when she wants to be-- purring and cooing when pleased, especially by dragons that she likes, such as Archer or Twilightspawn. Those two are the only dragons who know her well enough to not be fooled by this. As with many wildclaws, she likes dragons that are hunters or fighters, but with Garmr this is taken up to 11. Several dragons have a creeping suspicion that she has feelings for pretty much every mirror dragon in the clan, along with a few other clan members. Some of them are a little uncomfortable about this. Some of them aren't.
All of them should be.
