Murmur was born the child of a most heinous being, for his father was a former exalted dragon. He had been consumed with lust for power, and in his hubris sought to become a god. For this, he was cast down and cursed by the very deity he had served. His mother, fearing for the safety of her child, left Murmur in the care of an acquaintance, old Nahid.

Nahid cared for Murmur as though he was her own son, and he would end up being not unlike an older sibling to Nahid's own hatchlings. He was a bright young child, quickly taking an interest in Nahid's work in restoring and translating historical texts, and while she'd let him help here and there, it wasn't until the night she found him in her study, having snuck in to attempt to translate a text that had been confounding her, and succeeding to do so, that Nahid knew that Murmur was something special.

The young Imperial now serves as Nahid's only assistant, as she trusts no one but him with the delicate materials they handle in their work. Despite his closeness to the clan's matriarch, Murmur is humble, soft-spoken and occasionally anxious, for he fears that his fate is to inherit his father's madness, just like he inherited the runes representing the deity's curse.
