Longneck Scholar

Xenophanes was once a powerful spellcaster. So gifted, in fact, that he was a member of the Arcanist's court, charged with assisting the God in unraveling the mysteries of the Starfall Isles. Each day Xenophanes spent in the God's service grew his powers, his pride, and his hunger for more.

Friends and family, loved ones, cherished colleagues all pleaded with Xenophanes to stop, to see what he was becoming, to come back to the kind scholar he once was. Xenophanes did not listen. He drowned out their pleas and replaced the lonely void with more knowledge, more spells, more experiments, more scribblings on parchment and stacks of tomes. Each day his research drew him ever closer to crafting the ultimate spell... Soon all would see his glory and wonder why they ever doubted him...

His spell had misfired. It was meant to attune him to the energies of the isles. It was meant to bring him closer to enlightenment. it was MEANT to bring Xenophanes closer to perfection.....not....this. Monstrosity. Not a hide full of shards. Not useless, chaotic sparks instead of spells. Not the fearful gazes of his clan members.

Shunned by his clan, Xenophanes did the only thing left in his power. Leave. Wander far until his old life became nothing but a bittersweet memory. Left with a life without meaning, Xenophanes found himself on the brink of ruin. That is, until he spotted a tiny form flitting about, casting weak spells and swearing under its breath. A young fae. When it finally spotted him, he expected screams, an attack, venomous words. Instead, he met a reflection of...himself. Life, ambition, curiosity, fearlessness. He saw an apprentice, someone who he could mold into who Xenophanes was meant to be. He found Cillian, his apprentice.

Although Xenophanes can no longer cast spells, only a fool would think that he is harmless. Xenophanes is quite the opposite. The odd shards growing out of his body are deadly by their own right. A well-placed tail thrash can end a careless foe. However, Xenophanes has discovered an even more devastating ability. The irradiated shards on his body nullify ALL magic, not just his own. All magical abilities that come close to Xenophanes dissipate, completely disrupted by the strange emanations from the shardhide.

Xenophanes finds solace in philosophy. He spends his time training the clan's next generation of mages and writing.
