Like most members of the Forge Wardens, his assignments change daily from gathering food to scouting the clan's border. While he performs his duties with great tenacity and pride, his results come a little slower than most. Few are bothered by his lack of haste, for he seems to have a gift for finding things that were missed or concealed. A footprint of an intruder in their territory, a rare plant hidden behind a rock or even valuable trinkets are all revealed to him by his thoroughness and patience. Although he doesn't slack on the job, Valkin enjoys soaking his old bones in the lava pools with Wadarkhu, sampling Bynau's latest brews, and kicking back with Eltrys and Arokh when the day's work is done.

A venerated warrior whom many come to for advice, the old snapper has seen more battles than anyone else. He is one of the few who stood by the Matriarch during the clan's formation and growth. He has a grandfatherly air, especially when he visits his mate Yenirah in the hatchery where she works tending the clan's hatchlings. He'll happily let them ride around on his broad back or bounce them on his tail, for a little while at least. For the most part, he would be happy to sit back and spend his golden years relaxing in between trips to hunt, scavenge, and dig, but like any other member of the clan, he has a warrior's heart and bares the scars of a veteran's life.
