Someone once asked Leo if he considered Dash his competition. Leo shrugged, the way he does, and said a little competition never hurt anybody. Someone once asked Dash if she considered herself Leo's competition. Dash burst out laughing and slid the asker a drink, on the house. "You need it," she said "if you're really asking that." Dash is the bartender and proprietress of Habitat, a real hole-in-the-wall dive bar. Across town (and across the tracks) from Leo's, Habitat tends more to quiet introspection and unwatered drinks than to dancing and brawls. It doesn't hurt (or help?) that it's within walking distance of a certain statue garden as well. Surprisingly, Habitat is also a place for scientific discussions and philosophical debate. Ken wouldn't be out of place here, prim and proper while lecturing on Lagrange points to a group of layabouts. Or Amelia, swilling pineapple juice and arguing rationalism to whoever will listen, stubbornly sober despite Dash's best efforts. Don't let the kitschy decor and busted jukebox fool you: the science and the liquor are both rock hard. |
