"Never again...Will we be banished..."

Chaser, in the beginning, was a better than average Pearlcatcher with a good adaptation to Arcane magic. He worked as one of possibly hundreds of other apprentices to a great handful of magic wielders, experimenting with the magic and seeing if it could be used to further Sornieth's existence. One day, an apprentice accidentally ripped a hole that the Shade was able to seep through. It wasn't bad at first, if the dragon had just told the instructors when he realised he had RIPPED THE FABRIC OF MAGIC around the area, then the rest of this story would never had happened.

The dragon was already being consumed mentally by the Shade's persistence, and soon became twisted and warped by it. The Shade completely enveloped the dragon, and it began to go berserk in the lab. At that time, no one realised the dragon had released what little of the Shade there was, so everyone simply ran away from him to tell the instructor that someone just snapped out of nowhere, not knowing that Shade was involved. The instructor went to go investigate, but he soon realised this was a mark of the Shade, and had everyone evacuated before confronting it.

The problem to this was that Chaser was the closest to the berserking dragon, and paid no attention to the mass of dragons leaving their lab. It was normal for a full lab to be dismissed like that, so she simply kept on working alone in her own lab. The dragon found her quickly though, and instead of running, she simply tried to reason with it, but in honesty there was no way she could run around the dragon. It was amused by her efforts, and the completely Shade-fused dragon decided to try and infect Chaser too.

When the instructor found them, Chaser was struggling to get the Shade both off of herself and out of her head. She was doing fine, until the instructor apparently would rather banish them both than say, remove the Shade, kill it, then get their pupil out of the place. So the instructor banished Chaser with the shade from the inhabited lands of Sornieth, teleporting them far, far out into the ocean where barely anything lived outside of marine Beastclans and those weird random-chance pirates or whatever.

Chaser couldn't believe that her instructor would so quickly choose to abandon her instead of helping, and the Shade tried to use this moment of weakness to envelope her. She refused, and warned the Shade that if it would try and do that again. she would just kill it and probably herself too in the process. After much quarrel and attempts to get back to Sornieth, the two of them agreed that really nothing could be so blindly trusted again, and actually attempted to prove that instructor and the others wrong. She wasn't going to die or go mad because of the small amount of Shade she was exposed to, like history tried to tell her. She would prove that she can still live on, co existing with the Shade still prominently with her.

After ages of being with the Shade, it became something of an alter ego for her. No longer was it just a mass of black and foreboding energy circling around her, glossing over her scales. It was apart of her psyche, like two beings sharing one body. She could switch between either whenever the two wanted, and they'd happily bicker externally in front of crowds of other creatures.

With the help of the Shade and the few poor seafarers unlucky enough to meet her, she made it back to Sornieth in the Starfall Isles. She set out to find the instructor and her classmates, everyone she knew and prove them wrong. In reality, this was purely a manipulation now of the Shade to get her to attack more dragons to feed the Shade, which would then have its power and influence increase in Chaser. It was an effective but deadly and destructive relationship, but Chaser wasn't dead or insane, right?

As she traveled, many dragons had many different reactions to her situation. Some wanted to help her get rid of the Shade, or change the Shade in her to not be so damaging to them both. Others wanted her dead and attacked on sight. Others fled. She'll be greatly warped by those she meets, if they survive or not. So what has your clan offered to this dragon on her foggy journey through the world?
Chaser's time in the Night Flowers clan
Chaser had come to the Night Flowers clan, seeking her way back to her original clan. Ansara, the local Sage sensed a great disturbance within the pearlcatcher. She watched Chaser for many days before calling a meeting with her clanmates.
"This one is not well. In more ways than one, I sense something evil within her...an ancient one too. What shall we do? We cannot leave her alone, but we cannot let her roam our territory!"
Ansara finally made the rest of her clan understand, she had sensed a great evil within the new pearlcatcher. At night, Ansara would perform rituals infront of the new pearlcatcher's guest den. She would burn incense, use all sorts of cards, even consult the stars until she found her answer...The Shade. As soon as Ansara figured out what Chaser was harboring, she herself went to Chaser's den. She drived off Chaser away from her clan. Ansara knew there was no way she could remove the Shade, so she had to make her leave. She battled Chaser for a while until she finally drove Chaser out of the Night Flowers territory.
