Alken grew up with two sisters, both of who were much more like their parents than he was. Their parents were beautiful and radiated grace with each movement. Likewise, his sisters had interests in fashion and had light, shimmering scales like their parents. Meanwhile, he had darker flecks in his crystal-like scales that almost seemed to reflect his stand-offish personality. The young spiral often played by himself and went off to explore on his own rather than hang out with his siblings. He enjoyed sneaking out at night, which he often got in trouble for. His natural night vision often helped him in his explorations while his non-spiral clanmates struggled to find him.



As he grew older, the spiral became more serious and less troublesome. He still went out on nightly escapades, though now he would use this time to learn how to hunt and took notes of interesting finds. Alken also began to feel the urge to leave his home. He was old enough to leave and his sisters had already decided to find their own ways in life outside of the clan. After thinking about it deeply, he decided to head to the Plague flight. Their ideas of survival intrigued him and he heard they had iron rich sands that moved like ocean waves thanks to serpents moving beneath.



He wrote about his travels in his journals and even picked up a few pets. He found snakes rather fascinating due to the similarities between himself and the wingless reptiles. The snakes also seemed to like his company, though that could be due to him feeding them scraps. Eventually, Alken and his pets joined the Clan of Death after running into the clan in Plague. Being mostly nocturnal by now, he took up the task of being a nocturnal hunter for the clan. In rare cases he might be seen going out during the day, however he prefers the quietness of the night. There were less dragons to talk to, which some might consider lonely, but he found it peaceful.



After a long time however, he met Arsenic, a pearlcatcher who worked as the clan's assistant healer. Like him, she was rather quiet and the two began to mingle with each other; enjoying the company of the other in silence. He found she was rather hesitant to speak about her scarred over scales but over time the two grew close enough to open up to each other about their personal lives. The two decided to become mates soon after. Alken still hasn't opened up to other dragons in the clan- and has no plans to- but he has decided his mate is the exception. He's found she especially loves to hear about his notes and trip in general after he's been away for several days, as his absence does worry her from time to time. She also seems to be the only dragon in the clan who doesn't find all his pet snakes strange. The spiral couldn't be happier to know he'll always return home to her.
