Kaal is eternally thankful she's been blessed with both of her parents' charms - otherwise, she doubts anyone would listen to half the things she has to say. Don't they care at all?, she pens in fervent letters home. Can't they see how much we depend on the land, the animals, even if they don't see their inherent value like I do?

Their responses are sweet, a little reassuring even, but Kaal knows she still has plenty of work to do. She ventures into the wild places of the world, documents what she finds, brings it back for others to learn from. Perhaps if they know more, they'll care like she does.
