Biography
Naliya The Ghost |
Despite Helios’ clear and curt warning for you to leave his island, curiosity of the lower level overwhelms any sense of self-preservation. You take to the sky, wait until you are out of sight of Helios, then swoop back down under the island and land on the lower level, pausing to listen for the fierce Wildclaw. When there is no sign of Helios, you turn to observe your surroundings. Before you is a cave, set slightly lower than ground level and opening onto a dirt clearing in the meadow grass. Entering the cavern, you find it lit by strange grey firelight. Walking farther in, you find what could easily be a hall of fame… monotone portraits of a Wildclaw in battle hang on the wall, all of various victorious poses. A bloodied cleaver is pinned neatly above an empty fireplace, a fur laying on the ground in front of it. Before you have a chance to explore anymore, a soft voice calls from behind you.
“Avoiding Helios? That won’t last long here.” You turn to find a Wildclaw, strangely translucent in color, “I’m Naliya, warrior first wife second. Welcome to my lair.” |

Origins
|
|
Naliya's life began in the one before this, when she lived by a fierce code of blood and claws. Before she hatched, Naliya’s egg was stolen by a rival Wildclaw clan, which wasn’t an uncommon event in her birth region. As soon as she hatched in the new clan, Naliya was exposed to a life of blood and violence, centered around the battles of the Arena. The almost exclusively Wildclaw clan frequently fought amongst themselves, and most of the arguments were resolved by means of battle and blood pacts. Growing up there, it was no surprise that Naliya became a skilled warrior, defeating all of her enemies with relative ease and earning a reputation as a dangerous enemy.
Naliya was not quite prepared for how the fame gained from battle would impact her life. Frequently she found herself challenged by up-and-coming warriors looking for a strong win on their record, most of which she denied simply out of a sense of honor. She got requests from war generals for her skills, queries from mercenaries, death threats from sore losers. One time, a clan of Wildclaws requested her presence, not for some battle tournament or war, but simply as a skilled presence. After a debate with her origin clan, Naliya discovered that the clan requesting her presence was not an enemy, though not an ally either. With that in mind, Naliya accepted the request and went to the clan as a warrior dignitary of sorts, ready to lend her claws to battle. There, she began to idly teach the warriors of the clan, maintaining a quiet presence in the clan as she did so. There, she also met the love of her life. |
Helios was a lowly indentured servant in the clan, one who had lost a battle, his honor, and his place in Wildclaw society. Naliya should have paid him no mind, should not have gotten enamored by his snarky streak and simmering anger at injustice; she was a warrior, a respected and powerful one at that. And yet, she did. She would steal away in the night to find him, talk long into the early morning hours and suffer the exhaustion the next day with a smile. They fell for each other quietly, quickly, and thoroughly. They plotted Helios’ escape, planned for a future, only to have it stolen away by wayward beastclans.
Naliya died in the Plateaus, ambushed by beastclans and forgotten by the noble she resided with. With no body left to her, Naliya floated through the afterlife idly, following the blinking light of color. Slowly, she regained strength, gained power over the physical realm despite her being a ghost. She discovered it was Helios who was the color, who she was following, and when she finally could maintain a physical form she fell in love all over again. Strangely, Naliya found herself colorblind, able to see the world only in shades of grey, only barely able to make out the glimmering gold of Helios’ armor. She stuck close to Helios, linked to this world by his presence and love, and as such became a member of the Galestorm Flyers along with him. She followed him as the Flyers moved, back to the memories of the Windwswept Plateau. She followed him to her grave, stood beside him as he shed tears over the moss covered stone marking it. She will follow him to the end, when death claims him as well. |

During her time as a living dragon, Naliya was a warrior through and through. Fierce, decisive, and dangerous, Naliya was not known for her mercy on the battlefield or ease of conversation off of it. She had no friends and few allies, but a strong moral code that guided her conscience. Though Naliya knew her strength in battle made it difficult for others to win against her, she would not enter a battle that would end within a heartbeat, which is to say she would not entertain unskilled warriors looking for a strong win that would only lead to their wounds. Still, despite the small show of kindness to her opponents, Naliya was a menace on the battlefield. She refused to hold herself back, fighting with all her might for her own love of battle rather than the entertainment of crowds. Naliya knew how to take care of herself, could defend herself from unwanted attention and battle her way through nearly any circumstance. Many wonder how she died if she was so skilled in battle, to which Naliya has no response.
