Though the scrub is far too dry for fungus, conditions for mushrooms are almost perfect down deep in Square Toe Cave. Bruc has several large beds tucked into the edges above the lake, which he tends with love and care. His mushrooms provide much-needed variety in the clan's diet as well as supplementing some of Cherry's medicines. His other role in the clan, that of garbage collector, is directly connected to this primary job. Fungi need to eat after all, and what better to feed them on than fish bones, insect shells, and the other organic byproducts of life in a dragon clan. Unusually for a Guardian, Bruc prefers not to talk about his charge. He has one, he asserts, but the specifics are private. It's rude to speculate, but among the more gossipy residents of Square Toe the leading options are the mushroom beds, his trademark pink ribbon, or his boyfriend Calypso. |

Bruc is the spit and image of the perfect boyfriend. He's loving, supportive, gives fantastic gifts and shouts the sweetest, if occasionally inappropriate, encouragement from the audience. Calypso returns all this and more - he's the only other dragon who knows Bruc's charge for sure, but he'll never tell, except to say it isn't him. |

Spike and Bruc have a good working relationship, but that's all the relationship they have. He writes up reports on his farm and slips them under the library door; Josie picks them up and drops them on Spike's desk. No contact involved. The one time they ever talked to each other at one of Calypso's shows, Josie didn't realize who he was until halfway through the conversation. How embarrassing! |

Conversely, working is the least part of his friendship with Sterling. Bruc is an early riser and talkative in the morning besides; the Coatl is generally still bleary when it's time to open up the 'lock. They still manage to have great, if somewhat incoherant, conversations about the weather, the fish, and how they think Sterling's latest book will end. |
