Biography

Clan Leader, Son of the Founders
Born during the BeastClan Era, Modern calendar year 1,120

watertop.png

Son of the Clan's original Founders, OceanCurrent was an only child. His mother, HippoTang, was a kind and nurturing dragon. His father, Lionfish, was a fierce and protective warrior, putting himself on the front lines of danger. The Clan of the Water Cobra was small, feeling more like a large, close-knit family. They were aware of their Beastclan neighbours, but did their best to avoid conflict - neither side wanted to sustain injury. But it seemed that wasn't enough for the Beastclans.

One day, during sunset, a banded war party of Maren, Serthis, Centaurs, and Harpies struck the small Clan. The Maren remained hidden, waiting for any dragons attempting to escape. When the Clan realized how many of them were falling, Lionfish commanded them to the waters. But it was here the Maren were waiting, quickly picking off the dragons without hesitation. Lionfish, on the shore trying to hold back the other three Beastclans, took to the water when he heard his mate and son's cries. The shore became chaos, and it was only when the Beastclans retreated that the remainders of the Clan could see what had happened. Among the fallen and lost was there Founders, and their only hatchling...

OceanCurrent couldn't remember much - chaos and sloshing water, the smell of blood and poisons. He remembered his parents calls, the cries of his Clan, and the rush of water in his ears when he was pulled under by webbed hands... Next thing he knew, he was floating at the surface of the Sea, with a distant shore in sight... hoping it was home, he slowly swam his way over - his body ached from bruises and cuts, but he was determined. It was only when he got closer, and realized he didn't recognize the grey, sandy cliffs, that he knew he was far from home.

It was dark by the time he reached the shore, at the base of a massive cliff. Thunder rolled overhead and lightning flashed, but he was too exhausted to care. He slipped into a slumber. When he opened his eyes again, he was in a small shelter... his memory was becoming cloudier and cloudier. Was this home? No, it didn't seem familiar... but what was home again? Someplace warm, and sunny... he remembered that much. Then he heard voices, unfamiliar voices in an unfamiliar language. He pressed himself down into his bed, as if hoping he'd go unseen if he flattened his body.

A creature he didn't recognize stepped into the tent, followed by another - they walked on hindlegs, had soft and fuzzy horns, huge eyes, and wide powdery wings. They looked straight at him, exchanged more foreign words, then the one to have first entered - a slim, blue-coloured individual - slowly approached OceanCurrent. Then it spoke, this time in draconic. It had an accent, but it wasn't hard to understand.

"Hello, little dragon. How do you feel?" It had an oddly feminine voice.

OceanCurrent buried deeper, flattening his wings against him. He didn't know what to say. He was afraid to speak.

"My name is Catocala. What is yours?" It - no, she - asked again.

OceanCurrent was at first still afraid to speak, but then he noticed a satchel slung over Catocala's shoulders - in it were a bunch of blue flowers.

Catocala noticed him looking at the flowers, and pulled one out with her wide, fuzzy clawed hand. "It's a blue parrot tulip."

"It's... pretty." OceanCurrent managed to mumble.

"You can keep it, if you like." Catocala offered. She placed it carefully beside OceanCurrent.

He slowly sat up, enough to carefully pull the flower closer with a wing. Swallowing his fear, her mumbled, "My name is OceanCurrent." He didn't remember who had named him... his parents, surely? But who were they?

"Fitting name." Catocala replied. "It suits you. You're as strong as one. Can I see your wounds?" She gestured to a healing cut along his shoulder, scabbed but still weak.

OceanCurrent nodded, and remained still as Catocala checked him over. She used many different plants to apply pastes and ointments to his injuries, but soon she was done. Her companion, a large and intimidating green individual, spoke then. Though OceanCurrent didn't understand it, he could tell it sounded urgent. Catocala replied, then turned back to OceanCurrent. "My companion, Jodis, will be outside of the tent if you need him. Do not stray - I will be back."

OceanCurrent did as she asked, lying in his bed until she returned. She brought him food, then left him to continue to rest. Days went by, and slowly OceanCurrent got used to his saviors - who he learned were called Mith - and eventually he began to feel like one of them. He saw dragons on the horizon on occasion, but never felt the need to see them - the only memories he could barely remember involved dragons, chaos, and blood. Whatever had happened, it had involved dragons.

He spent a good year with the Mith, learning a few words of their language and their culture. Sometimes, he was taken out into the desert, or down to the water's edge, and when he returned he smelled the faint traces of a stranger or two having been in the Clan. Whenever he asked about it, the answer was short and dismissive - it was nothing important. Then one day, some strangers arrived unexpectedly.

OceanCurrent had grown in size, though still smaller than his Mith friends. He was assisting Calocata, when Jodis came rushing to them, panicked and insisting OceanCurrent needed to hide. They shoved him into the nearest tent, where Jodis stood and blocked view within. But OceanCurrent was curious, and he looked out between Jodis' wide, furry feet.

Two creatures he had never seen before eventually walked into view. They walked on long, bird-like legs, with clawed hands coming out from their wings. Their faces were covered by intricately carved masks, and both were adorned in light armour and some type of weapon.

The black-coloured bird-like creature was speaking to Siona, the leader of the Miths here. The creature was speaking in the same language the Mith spoke, and she sounded impatient. OceanCurrent only recognized a few words. "... too long, Siona. ... insist. The Dragons ... territory ... ... not be long ... destroy you... now or never."

"We have ... generations." Siona replied calmly, a pure-white and old Mith Matriarch. "... the Dragons ... we will survive... no threat to them."

"But ... a threat to you!" The black-feathered one raised her voice.

"... make them one." Siona replied.

"Wait!" The tan-feathered creature hissed, her voice a deep and threatening sound. She sniffed the air, her feathers lifting along her shoulders. OceanCurrent recognized her next words clearly. "... Dragon."

"On the way?" The black-feathered one gasped.

"No." The tan-feathered replied gravely, stepping alarmingly closer to Jodis. "Here..."

"... no Dragon ... here." Jodis growled, lifting his wings as though in a defensive pose - in reality, he was blocking OceanCurrent from sight.

"We ... Dragon supplies." Alniaria, a pretty yellow-orange Mith, spoke up. "... what ... smelling!"

The tan-feathered creature grumbled, but the black-feathered one gave an annoyed huff. "... move on. Siona, ... the other ... patience... join us... best interest ... Sornieth." The trio continued to walk, until they were out of sight. Soon, Jodis stepped aside, allowing OceanCurrent out.

OceanCurrent had a tidal wave of questions. Siona herself answered them - Osprey and Harrier, the two strangers who had come by unexpectedly, were a race called Harpies. They and a bunch of other Beastclan races had banded together, a force against Dragons. Many other Beastclans were slowly joining, but the Mith - and this Clan in particular - were among a few who still hadn't joined. The united Beastclans hated Dragons, and would have killed OceanCurrent. He was upset, but ultimately understood. With the help of Calocata, he was eventually able to mask his smell with a variety of plants mixed together into a sort of perfume. He spent the next several years able to successfully hide himself from the insistent Harpies, who continued to try pressuring Siona into joining them.

OceanCurrent was a full-grown dragon when Siona passed away. Her successor was her son, Diffinis, a strong reddish-coloured Mith. When Siona died, Harpies came again to ask the Mith Clan to join them. Diffinis, loyal to his mother, denied them.

OceanCurrent began to feel uneasy. Something told him danger, and change, was on the horizon. He felt like his very body was changing... and he felt a call to the Sea. He loved the water as well as respected it out of fear, but suddenly he felt drawn to it... as though he had to dive into its depths.

He was on the cliff side, pondering on his recent desires to return to the water, when he heard a commotion coming from the Mith camp. He raced back, and soon detected blood. His heat-sensing eyes picked up large bodies, bigger than those of the Mith. But they weren't the dragons the Harpies always warned about... it was the Harpies themselves. The Harpies were fighting the Mith, slaughtering whoever would no submit. OceanCurrent, hidden between two tents, watched in horror as Diffinis was struck down, followed by Jodis as he tried to avenge the death of his leader. OceanCurrent could feel a change in his body... something was swelling. A deep voice, one he did not recognize, echoed in his head. A Water Dragon, through and through... Prove to the world what you can do... Avenge your friends, your family, your loved ones... Show the power of the Tidelord's sons.

Feathers, fuzz, and blood flew everywhere. As OceanCurrent felt overwhelmed by an odd surge of energy inside him, his eyes caught sight of Calocata - a Harpy had tried to grab her, and as she attempted to fly away, the Harpy swung its sword and sliced off one of her wings. As Calocata fell with a cry, OceanCurrent's mind fell blank - he was no longer thinking, he was acting. Now nearly five meters long and a wingspan over a meter longer than that, he rose like a beast from a horror story, wings flared and jaws wide. His eyes glowed a deep, bright blue, and as he raised his forelimbs, letting out an ear-splitting screech he'd never known he was capable of making, there was an even greater roar behind him. The Mith and Harpies alike froze, but it was the Harpies alone who had reason to be afraid. A wave of water was swelling over the cliff face, rushing for the camp. But as it neared it split, severing into single, high-powered streams. OceanCurrent leaped forward with the streams, and each and every Harpy he laid eyes on was hit with the force of a storm. Some didn't return to their feet.

Suddenly overwhelmed, the Harpies quickly fled. As they left, and OceanCurrent was certain they were gone, his energy relaxed. The sea water fell to the ground and soaked the earth, and OceanCurrent found himself exhausted. He collapsed, and he dreamed of memories long-forgotten. He knew where he'd come from. He knew who his parents had been. And he knew why he was no longer at that home.

When he awoke, Calocata sitting by his side, he was relieved to see she was alive, but her wing would never heal. She assured him she was okay, but asked about him. He quickly explained his dreams, reliving his returned memories as he explained. He then trailed off, understanding why the Sea had been calling to him - he had to return home. But what if the Harpies returned? He voiced his concerns to Calocata, and she gave him a reassuring smile - the Clan had already decided they had to leave, and make sure the Harpies never bothered them again. If OceanCurrent had to go and find his old home, they would all understand.

OceanCurrent stayed long enough to make sure the Mith were packed and ready, and to keep an eye out in case the Harpies returned or were watching. The Mith collected at the top of the cliff, bidding OceanCurrent their goodbyes. Now that he was faced with a new path, he felt the urge to stay with them. But his soul cried for the Sea, and so he gave a show before he left - leaping off the cliff, he spun and created a twisting, curling arc of water that caught the light of the setting sun and set the Mith in a shower of rainbows. They cheered their farewells after him, the wind billowing in his wings and carrying him out over the vast water - he had to hope his instincts would lead him home.
