B I O G R A P H Y
Dross is a dragon of few words and a multitude of conquests. She has been alive for many decades and, through countless trials and errors, learned the brutal ins and outs of the Scarred Wasteland and its inhabitants. Her actions speak for themselves, not a single judgment is made without immense thought behind it, nor acted upon without running through the potential consequences. She is cunning, strategic, and finds great joy in the way the dragons under her rule thrive and flourish. She can, however be completely ruthless when the time calls for it. |

O R I G I N S
Born under the endless boughs of the eternal glade, this dragon's place of origin was a small, simple unnamed Nature clan that made its home in the verdant Everbloom Gardens of The Viridian Labyrinth. Here grew the brilliant flowers and succulent low-hanging fruits that gave the area its name and across it, dotted throughout the landscape, were crystal clear pools of sparkling water. While most dragons in the Gardens took advantage of the natural gifts and grew and maintained beautiful domesticated plants in a manner perfectly describing the name of their home, this dragon took a much different approach to the practice. From a young age she found she had a talent for cultivating different molds and fungi, finding an unnatural joy in watching the way certain strains whittled away at their host organisms strength and very will to survive; flora and fauna alike. This deep fascination and unique set of gifts led to a series of rather unfortunate fungal infections which, in turn, led to an epidemic that spread throughout the clan leaving the vast majority burdened with the unwanted growth of and eventual concession to the parasitic Cordyceps. The dragons of the Gardens had grown weak from this deadly affliction but soon discovered the source of the sickness. The fungus-loving dragon whom they had cared for and raised had intentionally grown and spread the infectious spores among her clanmates to suit her own ill-natured desires. Individuals who perform such harrowing acts of treason against the nature flight are given a deeply shameful moniker that warns others of their wrong-doing. As such, they named her Dross; worthless, scum, waste. The dragons of the clan gathered together and, being unable to execute Dross themselves as a result of her foul experiment, resorted to the only action that they felt would keep themselves and their homes safe. Exile. |
The young dragon, then still just a Guardian, gathered her remaining fungal collections and without so much as an apologetic word or glance to the family she had knowingly wronged, set off into the vast world beyond the trees. Her closest friend and the only steadfast companion she had ever known, Panax, then also still a Guardian, bid his clan goodbye as well and left alongside her in hopes of finding a more exciting life. The duo, now without a home for the first time, fled across the The Viridian Labyrinth and sought temporary refuge in the nearby land of the Earth flight, Dragonhome.
Dross wandered alongside her new mate Panax aimlessly across The Shattered Plain for many suns and moons until one night, just as she was about to slip into the world of dreams, she recalled a certain story from her childhood; The Plague Bringer. Creator of things as foul and beautiful as her beloved fungi, the being that spread the countless pandemics that had overtaken the land many a time, the Goddess who would be the exiled dragons' truest salvation. The next morning she revealed to her mate the incredible plans she had laid out in her mind and, as he always had, Panax played along and agreed wholeheartedly. They would travel to the land of the Plague Bringer and begin a new life among the very atmosphere Dross had unknowingly craved deep in her being her entire life.
At the cusp of the regions of Earth and Plague, Dross paused, not because she fearful, but because the she was elated. Beyond the typical rocks and dirt of Dragonhome there was a swath of glimmering sickly red and brown earth, oozing pustules of green and yellow dotting the entire landscape. Never before had the formerly homeless dragon seen such immeasurable beauty, such power as the land itself battled endlessly against the creeping sickness that tried so hard to overtake it. With a deep sigh of gratitude and a heavy metaphorical weight lifted from her shoulders, Dross and Panax stepped into what would be their new home.

Life changed drastically for the duo of former Nature flight dragons after their move to the land of plague. Now progenitor and matriarch of Clan An Duin, Dross made the choice to take the form of a noble Ridgeback, as well as fully embrace her new name. Progenitor and second in command Panax, however, decided on a much smaller and more agile form, that of an able bodied Wildclaw, then, to no ones surprise, a stunningly beautiful Skydancer. With their new forms, identities, and duties to fulfill, they recruit wandering dragons from all around the supercontinent into their ever growing ranks.

An excerpt from the documentation of a 'Plague Conduit', owned and authorized by the Matriarch herself,
"One of Progenitor Dross's 'Plague Conduits', this mindless Fae dragon has no true name and never will. The subservient mental state set upon every Conduit is brought on by the infection of a specific strain of the Cordyceps fungus, one specially designed and grown by the Matriarch with a mission in mind, though this is not their main purpose.
No, the Conduit's first purpose is to hibernate inside a sap chrysalis spun by the Fae's own hands inside the branching central Prototaxites. The second, of course, is to house and nurture the parasitic spore infection Progenitor Dross has cultured and assigned them until the time comes to spread them, at which time the spores come to fruition.
This 'spread' can be one or more of many things depending on the danger involved, such as infiltrating an enemy clan or outpost, sneaking into a beast clan camp while its inhabitants slumber, or simply infecting and subsequently subduing a potentially dangerous animal or monster that has strayed too close to clan territory. While there have been no benevolent uses of a Plague Conduit to date, it remains a possibility."
