Biography
She shimmered in the melting shine of the sun and the moon. Talon-fingered and lingering in the strange timelessness of a realm beyond mortal reach. Her isolation caused her to seek solace within the magic gifted upon her. She weaved intricate webs of power, letting them radiate across the sky. They branched in every direction, without detection, invisible and swaying in the wind. Through the strings, she could feel the world of mortals. The hum of birds calling in the small hours of the morning, the laughter of travellers passing the roads. Every breath of life was felt by the threads weaved perfectly among the stars. She longed to join them.
And for two nights a year, she was able.
The sun kissed the moon and held the skies in a joint embrace. Day and night squeezing together in equal harmony, her realm grew smaller, and smaller, until she was out among the stars to fly. She soared in adoration of the cold wind upon her body, lungs filling and craving the sweet scent of flowers far below her. It was upon her nearly finished venture out that she spotted him.
He laid upon the branch of a tree and dozed. He looked as she, donning jewels that devoured the sun and shone back in brilliance. Stained with the colours of the sky as the sun began to hang. She was silent in her approach. This was a mortal.
Her talons came to rest at his cheek, and for a moment she watched him in agony. How she longed to be as he was, among the other mortals. How she felt her heart begin to crumble at her skybound prison. She was equinox-bound, her gaze travelling from his serene face to the skies, eyeing the sun as it sunk into the foreboding nothingness of night. She knew she should not have pressed her magic into him. Soft plumes of magic to be breathed in, visions of her in his mind permeating his dreams. The journey was too dangerous for a mere creature restrained by mortality. But in her mind she hoped he could battle through it. She wanted to be found by him.
But Equinox’s time was dwindling too quickly. She bid her goodbye with all of the torturous silence at her side, eyes filling with reluctant tears as she took to the skies to return to her realm. To be caught as the equinox ends would cause her soul to split in two. She felt the air grow thin, the world start to melt away behind her during her flight, until she was passing the boundaries of realms and fluttering in the endless nothingness of the true equinox.
She felt him. In the skies, she felt his pull upon her web as he soared. In the skies he shot through the clouds in search. Though he did not reach her, her heart fluttered at the prospect of being found. She could afford to be patient. In a world with no time, there is none to be wasted.
