Extra Story written by Dezzle (Via DM, on May 01, 2018, 15:22:10)
The Southern Icefield was the desolated and snowy tundra forest as always. Snow was slowly falling, and that was some good news: the weather was actually enjoyable, in comparison to the usual snowstorms and avalanches. Some footprints could be seen on the ground, forming a trail that led to a dragon peacefully walking. The Female Coatl was carrying a bag around, and something seemed to be moving inside of it.
She was used to the cold domain, although a bit of steam was coming out of her nose at every breath. Her bag started shaking and a small Coatl came out of it, stepping on the snow with his tiny paws. He appeared to be a hatchling, however, the other Coatl didn't seem to be the child's mother. At least not the biological one.
"Oh, so you finally 'waked' up," said the adult Coatl with a happy tone, staring at him with her light-green Wind eyes. They walked together for a while when the gray-and-white dragon noticed that the little guy was missing.
"Oh my Icewarden, Aaadhiwad? Again?" she was no longer surprised at this point, just disappointed. Looking around, she was trying to spot him, at least it wouldn't be so hard as he was a vibrant red in contrast with the white expanse. She noticed some of his footprints when he diverged from her path and started to follow them carefully. At one location, the marks just disappeared. She was puzzled trying to decipher how she would find him now when something suddenly crashed on her face.
She didn't even know where it came from or what it was. Oh, it was Aaadhiwad. The tiny Coatl was clinging to her serpentine neck, his eyes wide open and his whole body trembling with fear.
"What did you even 'did' this tim--" was what Gsuhad was about to say when a dozen of shadowy figures sneaked out of the trees, quietly watching them with glowing crimson and amber eyes. Their body shape was almost draconic, but instead of legs, they had long deconfigured spider-like arms growing out of everywhere on their torsos. The Coatl could count at least 6 in most of them. They didn't have any wings, so apparently, they weren't capable of flight.
Gsuhad was speechless, frozen by fear. Those things were at least ominous, if not scary as heck. She snapped out of her paralysis when the weird creatures started to grow closer, creeping as if they were predators over their prey. Just the thought that they two were the prey of the situation made her shiver. The female adult grabbed Aaadhiwad, putting him in her bag and started to fly higher. The air was already starting to get rarefied when she saw the shadows flying to her direction, circling her like wolves.
She dashed down like a missile, almost crashing to the snow when landing, and hid in a hole that probably nested dragons previously.
"How did you find those??" whispered the Coatl, opening her bag to find Aaadhiwad's white eyes full of despair.
"Th-There was an... orb... and it was glowing purple... so I touched it! Those... things... got out of there and aggressively tried to attack me!" he said, stuttering during the whole sentence.
Gsuhad thought for a second and knew what she had to do.
"I'll go get the orb. Touching it should... destroy those creatures."
Throwing the bag deeper into the hole, she glanced to see if he was alright. Stretching out to reach the surface one more time, the Coatl heard the hatchling scream to go with her.
Ignoring it, Gsuhad got to the top of the snow and could already see the beasts sniffing around to find her scent. She had some seconds to track where the orb's power was coming from, but luckily it was enough.
She ran to the direction as fast as she could, totally aware of the howls and growls behind her tail. The only thing she could wish is that she didn't trip over. She tripped over.
Rolling on the snow, Gsuhad was pretty sure this was her end. The creatures were running closer and closer, but she would not die before fighting. Getting up, the dragon created a strong wind to startle them and jumped over the bigger of the pack with unleashed claws.
The fight went on, but Gsuhad was being overpowered and overnumbered fastly. Abruptly, the spirits stopped attacking her and looked at something behind her. She turned her head to catch a glimpse of Aaadhiwad getting the orb.
Gsuhad didn't have time to ask 'how' or 'why', she just kept some of the creatures in a small tornado she created. Touching the orb didn't do anything at all, but before she could do anything, Aaadhiwad grabbed it with his two hands and smashed it against the ground, breaking it into a million of pieces.
The shadowy figures started to screech while fading away until they disappeared completely.
Gsuhad ran to the hatchling, embracing him. At least, they both were safe, and especially: he was safe. She sighed, looking at him with an air of admonition to the next times.
What lesson can we learn from this?
"Don't try summoning demons with a haunted orb ever again"
