____Little is known about the sooty Fae who fondly accompanies Vesper whenever she appears. When he does join the clan without his companion he can usually be glimpsed contemplatively haunting the great bone memorials erected to the clan's dead and exalted. Just as with Vesper, it is impossible to be certain of his true nature - ghost? Spirit? Deity? A particularly secretive dragon of flesh and blood? - but few could doubt his unshakable loyalty to his Queen or to his clan.

____The ease with which Tocsin understands the monotone monarch means he is sometimes jostled into the role of unofficial translator, with members of the clan entreating him to interfere on their behalf. Melancholia runs deep in the bat-like Fae's veins, but he is good-natured and listens to the appeals with sombre eyes beneath his whirling cloak.

____The pair are often found nestled in a nest of glistening sap and darkened bone high on the cave wall. One thing is certain; he is beloved, cherished, precious.
